II is extremely good, an excellent thriller in its own right, bolstered by great direction and cinematography. Hitchcock would approve. 8/10

III is watchable, but pales in comparison to the original. Perkins directed it, and he kinda didn't know what he was doing. 5/10

IV is decent, it plays out like a companion piece to the original, and it brings Norman's story full circle. Benefits from a Joseph Stefano script (he wrote Hitchcock's film). But still, it's not the original Psycho. 6/10

Remake... Don't bother.

wow you sound crazy mad lol

you forgot three little words IN YOUR OPINION

you also forgot to admit that you didn't even buy this

yes there is some DNR but it is not Garbage and the film isn't a joke,
some people including myself like it, and are glad it's included in this great value set

So I assume the single releases are from the same company and will be the same discs as in the collection. They are region free right (despite the back of the box saying Region B)? I want to pre-order but don't want to get a disc I can't watch.

Yes, Via Vision is also distributing the individual releases. They will be the exact same discs, so they will almost certainly be Region Free.

I assume that since Via Vision only obtains the physical media rights for Australia, they're obliged to create a Region B disc, but they're smart enough to realise the international interest sets like this and the Harryhausen box will create, so they've secretly made them Region Free whilst putting the B symbol on the back. Good on them, I say.

Yeah I wish more companies would do that. Thanks for letting me know.

Well, I had the complete collection ordered direct from JBHiFi $83.98 shipped, but I pulled the plug at the very last second and got my refund I will stick with the individual releases for IV and the remake that are coming out in March, can someone add BD listings for those two titles on here, or do know when they will be added?

It's exactly the same. Same video, same audio, same extras, same disc menu. Only difference is that the Via Vision disc doesn't have a chapter selection menu.

Australia DVD Set or Blu Ray set

I pondered over buying the DVD or blu ray set of Pyscho Complete Collection for a few weeks. The hefty price tag of the blu ray set put me off, so I went with the DVD set which is much cheaper. My blu ray upscales to 1080, and I have been happy with the image quality of the DVD's. The only one with crappy picture is Bates Motel (1987), but that was filmed on video originally. It was also a flop when it came out, and I turned it off half way through. It is a terrible TV movie and it's no wonder Perkins wanted nothing to do with it.

To be honest, the only ones in the collection you're likely to watch over and over are 1 and 2 (and maybe 4), so consider just buying the DVD set. The transfers are fine.

Actually, it was shot on 35mm film (according to IMDb). I believe it was edited and completed on video, but it could have been edited on film, much like Columbo at the time.

I just don't think anybody cares about it since it's so crap. Scanning a 35mm print would be a waste of everybody's time, and recreating the film from the original negative is also a huge waste of time.

Region free Blu-ray player

I'm glad a got one of those (sony bdp-s3200) I will never have to ask that question again. I think it's pretty stupid that they still make region locked Blu-ray player in 2016...

As for Psycho: the complete collection, I only consider the first sequel watchable, I own the original and if I ever want to watch Psycho II, I'll get the single release. To be very complete it should include the first three seasons of Bates Motel that are very good, that would be a very complete set.

I'm in the U.S. and just got the box from JB HIFI. All the discs are region free and play fine on my region A player despite the markings on the cover. I would think the sperate releases would be identical.

Psycho III is more than just watchable. Perkins may have been a novice as a director but he shared Alfred Hitchcock's streak of extremely dark humour which is evident in the film.
