The Worst CGI addition is....
D) All of the above

All the added CGI is pointless, they add nothing to the films other than distracting from them and are a slap in the face to the the original artists who spent countless hours creating the effects in the 70s & 80s.

That's not actually fair - In Empire particularly most of the changes are good - Cloud City looks simply stunning - in most cases you don't notice (which admittedly should have been how it all was) - going back and watching the unspecial Empire Cloud City just looks so cramped.

So if Lucas had kept to tidying up the matte effects and adding background like on Bespin I think people would have been fine, but agree the changes are pointless. I miss the old Final Ewok scene - the music was much better...

Disagree. The Falcon departing Mos Eisley is a thing of beauty.

Despite the average CGI (let's be fair, this was done in 1997) it made sense to include the slug Jabba. It would be stupid to have Jabba as a giant slug in one film and a human in another.

It would have made more sense not to bother, as his conversation with Solo essentially mirrors the dialogue between Solo and Greedo. It's as redundant as the added tunnel scene in the extended cut of Superman: The Movie.

The Jabba scene was an addition to the 1997 special edition (and all subsequent re-releases) and was not in the original theatrical release - human, slug or otherwise. As someone else has said, the scene was shot with actor Declan Mulholland standing in for whatever Lucas wanted to add in post production -I think they intended to add something using stop motion, but the idea was abandoned.

It serves no purpose to the plot and should have remained as a somewhat interesting deleted scene. The same expository dialog was covered in the Greedo sequence to better effect.

The only reason I can see for the scene to be there is to show off the awful 1997/2004 "look what we can do now!" CGI and an excuse to shoehorn Boba Fett in to Episode IV.

I do find it amusing that the CGI of the Special Editions and Prequels is aging faster than most of the practical effects in the Original Trilogy.

It just shows that models will always be better than cgi especially if the cgi could be done better.

I can't fault the cgi of the new film.

Agreed. The new film showed exactly how and when to use CGI.

Like I say, I think the reason the CG has aged so poorly already is it's so poorly integrated. No consistency with its use so it sticks out like a sore thumb.

I'll agree with you to a certain point there, particularly about AOTC as they were trying new things, but the CGI in ROTS hasn't aged at all and if it came out today you wouldn't notice. Some of ILM's best work was in ROTS. TPM actually looks pretty good in a lot of scenes, especially Coruscant.

I got the X-Wing from Argos earlier, they didn't have the others. I couldn't find the Tie-Fighter on Argos's site, do you have a link, Sky_Captain?

They don't have it, unfortunately. I made the mistake of ordering it and the Resistance X-Wing from Amazon.de yesterday, before going to my local shopping centre today seeing that Toy Master was closing and everything was half price...

I'll have the Amazon.de order just after Xmas. If you still don't have one by then, let me know. I'll sell it to you for cost, as opposed to returning it to Germany.

I think that's my main problem with the prequels (poor scripts/acting aside). Each episode looks different to the last - no consistency. Episode 1 comes off best for me as it was shot on film and feels more like a classic Star Wars movie. The switch to digital is too apparent.

I can't believe that this only got mastered in 2K.

The one film that you could push as the first true must own 4K title, but nope-not going to happen.

Have you just found that from the technical specs on IMDb? Because I'm not entirely sure how trustworthy that is - they seem to be changing the master resolution all the time on newly released films.

I still think there is a 4k 2d version, but 3d means 2k nowadays

TASM2 was 3D and 4K - I don't see why The Force Awakens shouldn't be.

I was all set with a reservations for one of those AFW Millennium Falcons from Argos and they put the price up yesterday.

Is that Tie and X Wing above the £16.99 version? There seems to be many different versions. Hard to tell what size they are.
