I like the silver myself. It's a choice, I'm sure they could have done white if they wanted to, so I don't see it as "lazy".

I think this design works better than the Kiki's one.

Well I don't see how you don't realize it isn't so much a "choice", as it is them being lazy. The very fact that all the renders of these are white, and they turn out silver is the most obvious evidence that it isn't a creative decision. Almost every SB that's rendered as white in a stock photo ends up being silver, which is the base color for SB's before painted. If this just happened to be some exception where they wanted to go with silver from the start, then they wouldn't delude customers by showing a white SB. So yes, lazy is quite appropriate here in my opinion.

Agree. The white actually looked pretty great on all the Ghibli steels. Such a disappointment when they turned out to be silver. If anyone likes the silver effect, great, entirely their choice. Personally, for the reasons stated here, I think it's pretty lazy and largely detracts from how great these steels could have been.

Rock and a hard place. They should have done them differently from the start. With Mononoke and Kiki, they really are in a no-win situation.

They? So Studio Canal?
Zavvi was not involved for the first 4. These here are exclusive.

And it really could have been worse anyway:

*cough*

I'm not sure if that's worse, or just a different shade of crap!

As for fault - SC, Zavvi, whoever's idea it was to go with silver instead of white. Fcukwits.

Nope, I'm still not following the logic of your argument, sorry. What is the extra effort they would have to go to in order to be white that makes it lazy of them to not? It's not as though they are being individually hand-painted, is it? I'm sure a file gets fed into a computer that is attached to a machine or two... I don't see what difference it would make to the machine(s)?

Regardless, I like the silver, I'm sorry some of you don't. I think it marks it out as being different to the paint, which I find quite cool with them being for films that are (for the most part) produced using traditionally animated painted cels. I think white would have worked quite nicely too, but ...

Its false advertising basically.

The orange will look different against a silver back drop. It looks much nicer with a white back drop. If they are silver I might ask for a refund/partial refund.

I'm pretty sure it'll be silver (again, like the previous four releases). I wouldn't bother ordering it if you don't like that. I would agree that it looks misleadingly white, but they could probably argue the whiteness of the render is what the silver would look like under perfect lighting conditions or something...

Is the dress black and blue or gold and white?

This is live now btw.

I imagine white is harder to do than other colors. I don't see any other reason why so many different Steelbooks from various labels that advertise the color as white end up being silver in person.

Not sure what all the complaining is about. No, it's not the most amazing cover, but did anyone really think they would break tradition from the previous four released Studio Ghibli steelbooks?
