![]() Never heard of this before. http://www.dddhouse.com/v3/product_d...roductID=14842 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3540136/...nm_flmg_act_10 Pretty sure this was shot in 3D. Looks like a 90's action movie. |

Thanks, looks interesting for action.
If filmed in 3D, hopefully they separated the dual cameras enough for strong 3D. The Variety review says "Shoddy 3D" but then doesn't say another word about it from what I saw, suggesting they could care less about 3D to begin with and probably dismissed it altogether. |

I watched Wolf Warrior in 3D a while ago. It's region free from Hong Kong, though unusually comes without the 2D version on the same disc (the 2D version is available separately – the packaging for both retitles the film as Wolf Warriors).
3D: ![]() 2D: ![]() I’d read bad things about the 3D being no good and the film being disjointed and shameless Chinese military propaganda so my expectations were close to zero, always the best way to watch a film. From the outset I was very pleased with the 3D, which the subtitles often revealed was positioning people outside of the screen. They did wreck the 3D effect on occasion but not too often. The 3D had generally decent object separation, depth and layering and even some explosion debris coming out too, which I was not expecting. As the film settled down into running around in the woods territory the 3D also settled down and reminded me a bit of Predator’s but overall I have to rate it as a pleasant surprise for what I assume is a Chinese conversion. As for the film, well, it’s actually very much in the tradition of American action cinema, except with the Chinese military taking the place of the American military, so it can’t really be blamed for patriotism. Plotwise it’s dead simple – hero sniper kills the bad guy’s brother, bad guy hires foreign mercenaries to kill the sniper, who’s joined an elite military unit and gone on wargames. What hurts the most is that Wu Jing directed this himself and didn’t give himself and Scott Adkins a decent lengthy fight scene. In fact, there isn’t that much hand-to-hand combat in the movie, it’s mainly gunplay. But that was fine with me. Even the blatantly fake CG wolf attack scene was fine with me, I was in the mood for some undemanding entertainment and this film fit the bill. So it's worth checking out. |

Thanks for the review 13th Man. Glad the 3D held up for the most part.

The one issue with the Hong Kong release is that the English subtitle track subtitles all dialogue but Scott Adkins speaks English throughout so it would have been nice to have a subtitle track that cuts his lines out. But it's not a big deal. Last edited by the13thman; 12-28-2015 at 12:28 PM. Reason: subtitle clarification |
