Regarding the US BD of The Expendables 3, I don't believe the Lionsgate BD has a bitrate much higher than 20 Mbps for each cut, but the scan available online shows that this is one of their "randomized" discs, where the film is broken into about a dozen files and playlists (apparently to combat piracy) so listing values would be moot, because each playlist has slightly different values anyway, I seem to recall that there were/are issues with the Atmos track and the branching on the US BD, so I had gotten the German BD as a stopgap, but it does include most or all of the extras, and has optional English subtitles for the small amount of non-English dialogue in the film, which the Japanese BDs lack.

Like Transcendence, Pony Canyon gave this film an encode with MGVC, and placed each cut on its own BD-50. The theatrical cut is sold individually, but the 132-minute director's cut disc is exclusive to this Premium Edition. The bonus disc (also exclusive) contains about four hours of video extras, and they all have English: Dolby TrueHD 2.0 audio, but for some reason, the subtitles are forced on the entire disc by default. All three discs in the Japanese set are region free.

Hyena is a UK film which was released on DVD there last year, and also on DVD in the US earlier this year. The French BD is the only one on the market right now, but there is a Japanese BD coming, which is unlikely to have forced subs, and will probably sport a better encode even if it is also a BD-25, since there is no Japanese dub announced for the disc.

Pro-B reviewed the French BD of Passion a while ago, and the Japanese BD appears to use the same source, but there is a scan of the French BD floating around which claims the video bitrate is 29901 kbps and the audio is 1731 kbps 16-bit, (unfortunately, the source is not trustworthy, or I would add the bitrates here) so this might be worth having, particularly as it is region free.

It's worth getting specific about Sorcerer, because large portions of the film have characters speaking non-English dialogue (French, German, Spanish). English monolinguals will want Warner/Paramount's US BD for this reason, but the new French BD has several extras, including an exclusive new 75-minute video interview (in 1080p) with William Friedkin, conducted by...Nicolas Winding Refn. The extras are mostly English friendly (a video essay is in French) but have burned-in or forced French subtitles. The standard French edition is also a DigiBook, and this Limited Edition includes it in a handsome, sturdy box with a copy of the original script.

Regarding the US BD of The Expendables 3, I don't believe the Lionsgate BD has a bitrate much higher than 20 Mbps for each cut, but the scan available online shows that this is one of their "randomized" discs, where the film is broken into about a dozen files and playlists (apparently to combat piracy) so listing values would be moot, because each playlist has slightly different values anyway, I seem to recall that there were/are issues with the Atmos track and the branching on the US BD, so I had gotten the German BD as a stopgap, but it does include most or all of the extras, and has optional English subtitles for the small amount of non-English dialogue in the film, which the Japanese BDs lack.

Like Transcendence, Pony Canyon gave this film an encode with MGVC, and placed each cut on its own BD-50. The theatrical cut is sold individually, but the 132-minute director's cut disc is exclusive to this Premium Edition. The bonus disc (also exclusive) contains about four hours of video extras, and they all have English: Dolby TrueHD 2.0 audio, but for some reason, the subtitles are forced on the entire disc by default. All three discs in the Japanese set are region free.

Hyena is a UK film which was released on DVD there last year, and also on DVD in the US earlier this year. The French BD is the only one on the market right now, but there is a Japanese BD coming, which is unlikely to have forced subs, and will probably sport a better encode even if it is also a BD-25, since there is no Japanese dub announced for the disc.

Pro-B reviewed the French BD of Passion a while ago, and the Japanese BD appears to use the same source, but there is a scan of the French BD floating around which claims the video bitrate is 29901 kbps and the audio is 1731 kbps 16-bit, (unfortunately, the source is not trustworthy, or I would add the bitrates here) so this might be worth having, particularly as it is region free.

It's worth getting specific about Sorcerer, because large portions of the film have characters speaking non-English dialogue (French, German, Spanish). English monolinguals will want Warner/Paramount's US BD for this reason, but the new French BD has several extras, including an exclusive new 75-minute video interview (in 1080p) with William Friedkin, conducted by...Nicolas Winding Refn. The extras are mostly English friendly (a video essay is in French) but have burned-in or forced French subtitles. The standard French edition is also a DigiBook, and this Limited Edition includes it in a handsome, sturdy box with a copy of the original script.
