Is this a joke? I remember being 10 and my friends and I constantly argued over which was better, Super Nintendo or Sega Genesis. Kids do pay attention.

YOUNGER kids. My boy is 5. He is oblivious to the "console war" or how many units the Wii U have sold. All he cares about is how much fun Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon are.

Your boy is more well-adjusted then older gamers who feel the need to spout the superiority of their system because 'they prefer it.'

Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon are super-fun games. I have a Xbox One and a PS4 and use to have a Wii U. My birthday I am getting a new Wii U because honestly the games on that system are much more fun especially since I would rather play with people in my house then on-line.

Yeah, I have to agree. I grew up during the peak of the Genesis-SNES war and by the time I was like 7 or 8 I was well aware of the console wars. At the time I strongly favored Nintendo. There was a lot of schoolyard trash talk over "which console is best." It was every bit as nasty as today's MS v. Sony war among fanboys.

I had both. For sports games, it was no contest. Genesis WAS the console to play. If you were into RPG's it was definitely SNES. Oh and MK2 on SNES destroyed the Genesis version! To my eyes, it was damn close to the arcade!

Neither, it was Turbo Grafx 16.

I was in middle school when the 360 and PS3 first came out. There was a LOT of sh*t talking about them.

The Wii U gets a bad rap, but it's honestly just as great of a console as either the PS4 or Xbox One. It has a great library of games so far.

Meh, I'm not sure I agree. Now in terms of first party exclusives, yeah you have an argument. But even there the X1/PS4 has so much more 3rd party support with high profile AAA games that aren't on the Wii U, even that argument seems rather dubious.

However in terms of console design, I'm sorry but just like the Wii, the Wii U was deliberately designed underpowered for the sake of introducing a control gimmick. I tell people this all the time, I play the Wii U in SPITE of it's terrible design because I love Nintendo games. There is absolutely nothing about the Wii U from a console design standpoint that makes me feel it's better than the other two consoles.

I think there's a lot of cool unique features for the Wii U. I'm not playing it to play another knock off of the PS4 or X1's experience. It's different, and it should be different.

As far as AAA games I couldn't care less. They're all the exact same thing to me. Open world, over indulgent, DLC riddled garbage. So I don't care if it doesn't have "Ubisoft open world game #7" and "EA FPS with 50 buck DLC #13."

The only truly unique feature the Wii U has is the second screen controller, which COULD have been a killer feature if Nintendo didn't A.) Restrict it to where only one could be used per console and B.) The signal range from the controller to the console wasn't so limited. So Nintendo introduced this cool feature and then immediately gimps it's potential.

And your sweeping, overly generalized description of AAA games as being "open world, over indulgent, DLC riddled garbage" tells me you really don't play or pay attention to a lot of 3rd party games.

Third party games? Of course they aren't all the same. AAA gaming? Yeah... They are. Every AAA game from Ubisoft especially. If you're into a bunch of shooters, that's fine. When I play my PS4, I certainly have them. But I tend to like more of the indie and lower budget games now. The Sony exclusives are a step above though. Bloodborne is great.

A lot of those third party indie games are on the Wii U too though. Games like Shovel Knight are actually BETTER on the Wii U.

The signal range is ridiculous. I literally tried to play it wit the GamePad like 9 or 10 feet from the console the other day and the signal was lost. I mean seriously, they wouldn't have allowed at least maybe a 20-30 foot range for a major selling point of the system?

I like the Wii U and Nintendo in general but it's nowhere close to the PS4 or even the XBone in terms of number of quality games. The Wii U literally gets almost no third party games and when they do they're watered down versions that don't sell.

Looking at my shelf 13 of the 16 Wii U games I own are made by Nintendo. Until Nintendo consoles stop missing out on 90%+ of the quality 3rd party titles it'll continue to have the bad reputation for lack of games it deservedly gets.

Totally agree with you. I bought the PS4 and Wii U consoles at approximately the same time (December 2015) ... right now I have twelve PS4 games, and only three Wii U games (one of those came with the system, which I normally wouldn't have typically purchased separately ... and another one just came in the mail yesterday, Xenoblade Chronicles X, which looks fantastic).

And honestly there isn't much out there for the Wii U which makes me say "I need to have this game!" Games like Xenoblade Chronicles X and Splatoon seem to be a step in the right direction, but I have a feeling it's going to be one of those "too little, too late" type of situations for this system. Kinda reminds me of the Sega Saturn where some of the better titles came out towards the end of its lifespan.

Nintendo is a system that lives on its first Party and exlusives though. I buy a Wii U for those exclusives. I have both the Xbox One and PS4 and either of them can take care of third party titles.

Best of both worlds

If Nintendo keeps with that outdated mentality they'll eventually even lose their own customers considering the games aren't even as great as they used to.

Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival? Mario Party 10? Mario Tennis Ultra Smash? Sonic Boom?

Nintendo alone isn't to be blamed for thinking like this because their hostile infantile fanboys are the reason they're like this. Ninty fanboys even get into real fights over.. plastic toys. Plastic toys.

Yes making money is a completely outdated mentality.

I get that you don't get it but I don't think you do.

Yep, if you were a fan of near perfect Namco arcade games (Splatterhouse, Bravoman, Pac-Land, Galaga '88, Dragon Spirit) and SHUMPS (Blazing Lazers, Super Star Soldier, Side Arms, etc..). And that's just the American releases, imagine if they got all the things that the Japanese version (PC Engine) did?

Love my Wii U, but it's probably the most niche mainstream game system since The Dreamcast. Other than the Mario and Smash it doesn't really have broad appeal, which is fine by me. I have a feeling like the Dreamcast this system will probably have more love for it a few years from now.
