I didn't find it funny in the sense of it being an intentionally humorous movie. I laughed at most of the line delivery, acting and story. It just wasn't my cup of tea and I found myself laughing at how dreadfully bad I found the movie to be.

Surprised to not see Fury Road, Carol, or Force Awakens anywhere on the list.

Fury Road is in my Worst of 2015 list, and I haven't seen Force Awakens. I haven't seen the previous 6 Star Wars films either.

He hates Fury Road lol

And I mean honestly, does Star Wars really belong on a legitimate top 25 list? Obviously for a lot of fans it hit all the right buttons but for anyone else?

I initially thought it was good, about an 8/10 but the more I think about it, the more it slides closer to a 7.

A list can be legitimate with Star Wars. I really really like Star Wars, but i am by no means a diehard fan. My wife can take or leave the Star Wars movies...both of us enjoyed the hell out of Force Awakens.

All things considered, is Force Awakens some amazing cinematic achievement? No, but I can say it is the best time I had in the theater this year, and in the end that's what it's all about.

I also was pleasantly surprised by Fury Road. I thought they would both appear on the list somewhere.

Glad to see hateful Eight made the list.

I also saw a lot of talk about Carol, but I haven't seen it ... yet.

+1.

But yes, also at the misery of characters. It's pretty easy to do when a film fails to convince or pull you in (for reasons similar to what you've stated here).

I have yet to get to Carol too. Still need to finish up Youth. Need to see The Tribe, Son of Saul, Phoenix, and Beasts of No Nation. All of those have potential to break my top 25.

8. Trumbo
9. People Places Things

20. Jurassic World

It's an interesting exercise, 2015 clearly wasn't a great year. The movies outside the top 10/11 I'd consider pretty rough to be in any Top 20 list.

I phrased my question poorly. A better way I would ask is, "Is it really so surprising Star Wars did not appear in a top 25 list? Is it that good?"

Foggy inspired me to update my post with a few notes on the top 5. Also updated based on watching Mistress America and Paper Towns last night.

Whaaaaat? I think it's been one of the best years in film in the past decade. And I know many critics/reviewers/podcasters feel the same.

Completely disagree. 2015 felt largely underwhelming.

Yeah it has been a "meh" year overall. Some gems with a ton of junk. I'm not even happy with some of the movies lower on my list, but i saw worse than those. I saw 53 2015 movies as of now and more than half sucked.

I had a hard time making a top 25 list. There are films outside of my 25 that I still really really really liked.

26. The Martian
27. Creed
28. Dope
29. Breathe
30. Joy
31. Chi-Raw
32. A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting Existence
33. The Stanford Prison Experiment
34. The Mind's Eye
35. Nina Forever
36. Cop Car
37. The Overnight
38. He Never Died
39. Goodnight Mommy
40. The Wolfpack

I really liked all of those a lot. I'd buy every one on blu if I had enough money. I'd gladly and happily re-watch any of those.

Any year I can find 40+ films that I really, truly enjoyed...is a damn good year in film.

Although there were a few titles that I really liked, I too thought this year was very forgettable overall. My top two films (Sicario and Spotlight) would probably have been in the bottom half of my top 10 in good years. The years 1999-2001 come to mind as especially strong years.
