Is this game even relevant anymore? Outside of the standard Team Ico look and game world, it doesn't even look all that impressive compared to current games. That is in direct contrast to when it was first revealed 7 or 8 years ago for PS3 it literally blew everyone away.

If this game is anything short of a masterpiece it will get torn to pieces. It has to be flawless in gameplay, scope, length, story--literally everything that matters to avoid the Duke Nukem Forever stigma

Yes it is. I mean its showing at E3 was regarded as one of the high points of Sony's show. I personally think Team Ico and there stuff is overrated but Im not going to deny the buzz and attention this game generates. People want it and tout it as one of the PS4's most anticipated exclusivee

Yeah, I figured, but it's still not a great update. I dunno, I'm not feeling it for TLG anymore. Having said that, I won't dismiss it, and I will hope it is as good as they make it out to be.

I'll guess summer or fall 2016 for Last Guarian PS4. Can't wait for this one.

My guess is it will be Sony's big Fall 2016 title.

This has Star Wars Prequel-itis written all over it! I really do hope this game turns out to be great but I have a feeling there's no way it's going to live up to anyone's expectations.

Don't insult The Last Guardian like that But in all seriousness, it could very well turn out like Duke Nukem Forever, or indeed the Prequels if that's your view. I'm reserved on this.

The odds are in its favor that The Last Guardian will turn out well, based on the game play footage we saw, which heavily represents the style of Shadow of the Colossus and Ico especially, where you have to work with the other character to get through the puzzles. As long as the puzzles are a challenge and epic, I don't think I'll be disappointed as a fan.
The main challenge they were having was converting the game to the PS4 from the PS3, along with probably a very small team of developers.

Fall 2016 sounds probably, agreed.

Good recent summary of the game and comparisons to the prior games.

I love all things Team Ico and Prince of Persia type games.

These types of games lost their AAA status in the wake of fast frenetic shooting style games. Its a shame because there is so much the PS4 can do with such games. If I could make my own studio I would bring them back.

Fans of more slowly paced puzzle games and open world exploration will likely give Last Guardian a try when it is available later this year. These games are definitely about atmosphere and ancient environments to explore.

Cant agree more. I am sick of this new all fast paced action gaming. I know majority of people will stay away from this game and I can already see critics call it boring too.

Thinking back to Colossus and Ico, half the fun is wandering through an empty ancient building, wondering what the next challenge will be to continue through. What new danger may reveal itself behind the door.

In Colossus, the different enemy giants were the main threat, with the rest of the world filled with harmless lizards. I wouldn't have minded a few minor enemies scattered about in that world to keep things a little more tense, but otherwise the game was designed to be relaxing during the exploration areas.

We'll have to see who the enemies are in the Last Guardian, or it might be escaping the castle itself. Not sure yet.

Speaking to Edge magazine about the release and the game in general, the studio's Fumito Ueda also said that the large dog-like creature Trico, would also be a free-spirit and won't necessarily listen to the player.

“There are a lot [of games] out there where you can do that,” he said. “I think I’ve had enough of them.”

The magazine also adds that one of Trico’s powers is the ability to shoot a red beam of lightning from its tail at a point illuminated by the player. This is accomplished by pointing to the spot which you wish Trico to destroy using a mirrored shield.

More importantly, Ueda confirmed the game would be released at some point this year, something which he has “some worries, about, but is “also very excited” about at the same time.

"some worries"? I hope it's not rushed in any way. I know they had to go back and do more work for the PS4 since it was originally designed for the PS3 but how long they've worked on this overall, there should be no excuses.

Do you happen to have a link?

It's in the EDGE magazine issue 294, everything online is just taken from that.

Which I take as a clever way to explain away pathing issues.

Thanks Mavrick. I like the idea that the dog bird won't obey every command immediately, but hopefully he won't ignore the player in the middle of a life or death situation that requires the dog to survive.

Ueda confirmed "some point this year" sounds very tentative/unstable. I really hope this isn't pushed back into 2017.

The same habit was applied to Shadow of the Colossus. I don't remember their names, but the horse won't always respond to your calls whenever you call them.

I remember Wander (name of the player) saying "Agro" a few times before the horse showed up, but Agro was mostly reliable.
My only complaint with the game was the camera was half of the battle during the gameplay, trying to get it in the right position when firing arrows while riding the horse, and Agro continually walking into the camera's view from behind the player.
They were going for style over practicality with the camera, so while the default angle looks cinematic, it's not ideal for gameplay.

Story Spoiler:
That was
[Show spoiler]sad to see Agro fall into the pit below as Wander became corrupted by the evil spirits. That final boss was tough.

Have to play the PS3 double pack again before The Last Guardian hits. Didn't have Ico, so it was worth the upgrade to PS3 for Ico/Shadow 2 Pack.
