Unless you are counting the DVD era, this isn't true.

Mad Max: Fury Road has only had one release with Best Buy getting an exclusive Steelbook and Target getting an exclusive pack in comic ALL ON RELEASE DAY. No re-issue, no new extras, just the same discs released on the same day with different premiums.

And Army of Darkness on Blu-ray got two: Universal and Scream. DVD was 6 but again, a few were released at the same time so it isn't as "repetitive."

Want a real title that got way too many releases?

Keepcase, in a Best of Box with three other titles, Digibook, Steelbook, double feature with Heat, triple feature with two other Scorsese titles, Academy Awards sleeve, Ultimate Gangsters box with other titles, 30th anniversary box, and 30th anniversary keepcase.

All of the Goodfella releases prior to the 30th anniversary editions were the same disc sourced from an older master and having lossy DD audio. The 30th anniversary editions share a new disc that is sourced from a new master and have DTS-HD MA audio.

It was finished at 2K, so a 4K release will be an upconvert and not true 4K.

This is a poor argument. It borders on Straw Man fallacy.

There is no way of telling what this movie would be like if Michael Bay had directed it. It is also illogical to say such things seeing as this franchise is Miller's through and through.

UHD is gonna be such a relatively small market share and will cater to A/V enthusiasts, I really dunno how much emphasis they're gonna put on special features with that format. Maybe initially, just to get people to buy it, but ultimately special features is not what UHD is gonna be about.

(Wonder if there'll ever be a day when a UHD release comes with a retailer-exclusive bonus Blu-ray, and people go "ugh, 1080p...")

Oh, you can count on it.

I'm undecided with a UHD upgrade. The current BD already has lossless Atmos so it's not like the sound will be any better and as I can't use HDR on my 4K set I don't see what the point would be if this is a strict 2K upscale (I can already upscale my '1.9K' SDR Blu-ray, see?).

If it had been confirmed to have gotten a rebuild from the original Alexa acquisition (so that's 2.8K, yes, but it still has double the pixels of the final 2K finish) then I'd be much more interested because spatial resolution is about all my 4K TV has going for it. But Warners have kept schtum on such things so far, either that or the people in the tech blogger world just aren't asking them the hard questions...

I've never been one to care about what others think, but I legitimately feel bad for the people who can't handle and appreciate Fury Road for how fantastic it really is. It really does make me kinda sad whenever I read about it or someone tells me they didn't like it...



On another note, I already plan on getting the 4K disc and whatever special edition(s) are lined up down the road. You can never have enough Fury Road in your collection.

If the it's anything like what the past shows us then UHD will eventually be the only format with special features with the blurays being released with less and less forcing people to upgrade. I also bet that at least for the first couple of years every UHD release will come with a complimentary bluray disc(or ****ing 3 packs with DVD as well) I know plenty of people who already owned a dozen blurays when they caved and bought a bluray player because they were buying the 2 packs just for the DVD. History does tend to repeat itself.

I agree. What gets me even more, as the same people pop in every couple of pages, with the same complaints for the past 1000+ pages. I have strong feelings on Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy, but you don't see me and others camped out in the thread constantly picking fights with fans of the movies. The repetitive complaining by a vocal few, who can't seem to grasp that people like something, or being popular film, all rolled into one.

I'm completely fine with people not liking it, that is understandable since Fury Road isn't for everyone. When they make up stupid reasons why they don't like it, that is a completely different story.

The CGI complaining is hilariously stupid. Saying the story is too simple or there was just too much non-stop action and they were getting tired of it are valid reasons why someone wouldn't like the film.

I have the older version and think it's still pretty darn nice for what it offered. The newer versions are definitely worth it for the cleanup job.

As for Mad Max: Fury Road, I thought getting the Blu-Ray combo for $8 was a must-buy. If a newer version releases with a Black and White cut and extra extras...we'll see what that entails.

I have a hard time believing any movies will get rebuilds. Even the ones that do will be the guaranteed sellers, but then you run into the problem of the VFX being done at 2K for the most part, so will the studios fork over the cash to upgrade those?

I hear ya, man. I don't put it past the studios to pull some of those "exclusive to UHD" bonus features and other tricks to get people to upgrade, but once they realize that the vast majority of consumers simply aren't biting because A) they don't wanna upgrade their TV and player or B) they just can't see much (if any) difference between 1080p and 4K, then either the format dies, or it becomes an enthusiast's format that focuses more and more on just A/V. I sincerely hope it's the latter.

Uh, you know The Martian was rebuilt in 4K when they did the HDR pass, right?

As for VFX, people keep trotting that line out about them being 2K but it's kind of an open secret that the effects shots in most first-run 4K masters are already upscaled from 2K, reason being that audiences simply can't tell the difference during the average fast-paced action scene due to how the temporal resolution takes a major hit in 24fps.

Ergo, if a 2K movie gets a 4K rebuild with 'native' 4K live action and upscaled 2K VFX it would be no different from the vast majority of actual 4K finishes that are already out there. Yeah, Mad Max wasn't lensed at 4K to begin with but I'd still take a 2.8K -> 4K upscale from the source original than just 2K -> 4K. If it's good enough for Roger Deakins, it's good enough for me.
