If you want just non-stop volleyball action, then 1990's "Side Out" is probably the definitive volleyball film. In fairness to Ray, I think it's the sexual tension in "Top Gun" between Ice and Mav that really wins him over as opposed to the beach volleyball scenes.

I watched Nicolas Roeg's "Insignificance" last night. I feel like it's one of the most overlooked films in the entire collection. Just a fascinating, exquisitely written and directed film. Theresa Russell is not only incredibly beautiful, but absolutely steals the show with her performance as the "Actress", a takeoff on Marilyn Monroe. The largely unknown Michael Emil is great as the Einstein facsimile. Gary Busey and Tony Curtis also give strong performances. It's probably one of the lesser known or discussed films in the collection, as I don't believe it even had a DVD release before Criterion put it out, but it's very much a film worth watching multiple times.

Since Man of Aran is streaming does that mean Criterion will eventually do a physical release?

It does not. They stream a lot more stuff than what they physically release.

It might possibly be released side by side or with Nanook of the North when it's eventually released (It was stated elsewhere that they're currently working on a restoration for North!)

Is there a list of movies they have available through streaming only?

I don't think so, their hulu page has all the titles streaming and supposedly a filter for online only, but the filter doesn't seem to work at least on my Chrome browser:

https://www.criterion.com/hulu

Also the list don't seem to be updated with the latest additions I have seen on hulu.

This list lets you sort by online only, but this only covers Hulu and not what Criterion may have streaming on other services.

Edit: looks like the thread was all over this one. Good job team!

I need to add Insignificance to my short list to view. I was absolutely blown away by Don't Look Now and Walkabout and thought Roeg was a genius. Then, I watched Bad Timing and The Man Who Fell To Earth last month and I'm not sure I want to see another rock star in a movie ever again. [TMWFTE was ok but too weird IMO...Bowie was good for being so high. BT was gawdawful and Art was a bore.]

I'd have to agree with you guys on The Master & Phoenix. He should have gotten the Oscar that year: a very physical performance. It was all in the way he moved. Leo's performance in The Revenant was just as physical, though with not nearly the same amount of dialogue. I also loved B. Nights & Magnolia (esp. that frog downpour), but the Phoenix acting job outshone most of the others in PTA's movies. Might have an argument with DDL in TWBB though.

I watched my newly-acquired OOP copy of Pierrot Le Fou last night and it was the greatest thing ever.

I have never connected with a Godard film the way I connect with this one and I don't even know why.

This movie is so freaking brilliant on so many different levels.

...legitimate possibility that it may end up breaking into my top 20 all-time.

Daniel Day Lewis is phenomenal in TWBB, but I honestly can't think of the last time that an actor really made me believe that he WAS the character the way that Joachim Pheonix made me believe he was Freddie Quell.

I'm sorry but the Academy Awards have absolutely no legitimacy when he doesn't win the award for best actor.

And The Master losing out on best picture to...Argo?

...are you freaking kidding me?

Does anyone know when Barnes and Noble's next Criterion sale will be or when Best Buy will sell them for 50% off?

Just curious....
