Guess I should add this info to all the Koch wave threads
MK50 over on HDN has reported the following: "KOCH Media has confirmed the following (for the entire wave!): Steelbook, NOT Stickerbook FSK Logo is a Sticker NO inside artwork Printed infos on the back" |

I'm not sure what you mean by "untampered HD file". It's likely sourced from the same old DVD transfer with less DNR applied. Which one is "better" is hard to say and a matter of taste; I'd say they are equally bad but in a different way.

There's still ugly artificial sharpening so I certainly wouldn't call it "untempered". I don't know if such a thing even exists for Darkman, I'd bet the edge enhancement was baked in for the DVD mastering and nothing else exists.

Generally speaking, edge enhancement comes after the transferring. It's post-production. That's what I know.

Maybe the Germans had the untampered HD file and just added EE by themselves. But there is not the same amount of DNR like the American one, so an "uncontaminated" file must exist for sure.

I don't think it "must exist for sure". My theory is that all that they had in the first place was an old DVD master with EE already baked in and they used that to create the Blu-Ray master. The US disc has the same amount of EE, it's just blurrier.
We will probably never know and I don't think anyone is gonna spend money on a new master for this movie. |
