The different running times of the two versions are also mentioned to make it perfectly clear.
Thanks for clarifying. Though I feel it would be good to specifically mention it in the actual review in the future, because the details at the top of the page are freely editable by all members, and thus quite often incorrect, even if the title has been reviewed by staff. I don't mean to imply that any of yours have been incorrect in the past (mostly US reviews), but I have been burned multiple times because of incorrect data, be it region coding, subtitles and whatnot.

You are welcome, Matti.

The bolded part is actually incorrect. If the release is reviewed and someone attempts to make a correction, the reviewer will have to approve it. Various fields are now locked as well. So, unless I approve a submission after the review has gone live, you won't see any changes

And you know well: If you need any additional information -- about region coding, subtitles, etc. -- you are always welcome to PM me. Sometimes it might take a day or two, but I will always respond.

Really enjoyed this a lot. When I glanced at the review, it summed up two of my main impressions, dreamy & borderline surreal. Because of money, I haven't picked up any of the other Zalman Kings, but need to look into them. I wonder if the others are as good as this. Perhaps Dr. Svet or someone could suggest some other favorites? I had gotten the feeling 9 1/2 weeks was his most commercial & uninteresting film, but may even need to check that out too, as I only fast forwarded through the VHS when my GF rented it back in the day, hoping it would be "soft porn".
EDIT: looks like there is only 2 Moon Junction on BD, didn't realize he only produced 9 1/2 weeks. Still wanna pick those up soon.

I haven't seen Wild Orchid but from the sound of your impressions of it you will enjoy Two Moon Junction. It's currently on Netflix also if you have that.

Billy,

Are you interested only in Blu-ray releases? Or is DVD an option as well?

Blu-RAY

You probably can look at the big Just Jaeckin films: Emmanuelle and The Story of O. They both have the dreamy feel that you liked, but not the surreal elements. The second Emmanuelle film also has a fantastic score from the great Francis Lai*. (It works even better than the soundtrack Wild Orchid has). All three are out in Italy, but there are alternatives in France and the UK for the first film (you can see our reviews if you check the database). These are the Italian releases, plus the French release for the original film:

**

I would not consider the Tinto Brass films as they are going for an entirely different vibe. Many of them are very good, but they don't offer what you looking for. The closest one in terms of style that you may like is probably Brass' take on Senso, which has a top soundtrack from Ennio Morricone But this is a period film. (Better to see the Visconti film first).

I see that you have some of Brigitte Lahaie's films from Redemption. If you like these types of films and the style they promote, you can check the early works of director José Bénazéraf (not the late ones). This is probably where the final best days of European erotica are before things moved elsewhere.

This is a very interesting film (see below). It gets pushed in the horror category, but it actually blends erotica and gothic psychedelica very well. It comes from John Cassavetes' daughter, Xan Cassavetes. I think you will like it -- and no, the trailer does not sell it right.

If you want darker/more intense and dreamier films, definitely see My Mistress. Ignore the mainstream reviews. It is really well done

This is a fantastic film as well, but it is out on Blu-ray only in Germany. You will need English subtitles, so the best option for you is the U.S. DVD release from IFC Films. Fantastic atmosphere and tremendous performance from Laetitia Casta

SOME DVD SUGGESTIONS:

With DVD there are endless options. I don't know if you purchase them. (I do).

You can probably start with Jean-Claude Brisseau. A very, very serious director who is pretty much in a category of his own when it comes to quality erotic films. A lot of his films ooze the atmosphere I think you like.

You can see The Exterminating Angels, Secret Things, etc.

You will probably enjoy Joy and Joy & Joan as well, though they come from a different period:

Lastly, two films from dierctor Patrice Leconte, a true master. Both have erotic elements, and the second I know you will fall in love with. It is pure poetry with tremendous style

a) The Hairdresser's Husband
b) Le parfum d'Yvonne

The notorious dance:

There is a lot here, but unfortunately not on Blu-ray yet in English-speaking territories.
