Perfect thank you!

They look them up using sku?

There have been some questions about the UHD Alliance Premium Certification logo that appears on the back of the UHD BRs from Fox. Keep in mind that Sony is not using it on displays and presumably will not use it on content either. I believe that is because they do not meet the black level requirement of less than .05 cd/m2. Whether they grade content to that spec remains to be seen.

"What are the Ultra HD Premium Requirements?

In order to receive the UHD Alliance Premium Logo, content and distribution must meet or exceed the following specifications:

•An image resolution must be 3840×2160, what we’ve commonly called Ultra HD (4K).
•A minimum color bit depth signal of 10-bits (see more details on this below)
•BT.2020 color representation
•High Dynamic Range in accordance with SMPTE ST2084 EOTF.

When it comes to displays, such as LEDs and OLEDs, all of the above is true with some additional details. It's important to note that the UHD Alliance's spec only requires support for 10-bit content as an input. They do not specify what happens within the device afterwards. For example, the display could accept a 10-bit signal but then dither it down to 8-bits and it would still pass muster. In other words, as long as the device is able to support 10-bit content as an input, it meets the criteria. In case you're wondering, the UHD Alliance isn't doing anything funky here. This is consistent with the CTA's (Consumer Technology Association) definition.

A display must also have a signal input capable of BT.2020 representation but for the actual reproduction, the display just needs to support more than 90% of P3 colors.

HDR requirements for displays gets a bit tricky. Let’s lay it out for you. The UHD Alliance supports specifications across a broad range of display technologies, such as LED and OLED. Because each of these technologies has particular strengths and weaknesses, the UHD Alliance defined a combination of parameters that will cover a broad range of display technologies.

To pass HDR muster, a display must either achieve:
1.More 1000 nits peak brightness and less than 0.05 nits black level. This spec is likely targeting LED displays which can really crank out the brightness but can’t get those black levels all the way down.
2.More than 540 nits of peak brightness and less than 0.0005 nits black level. This spec is likely targeting OLED displays with their infinite black level but can’t quite hit the peak brightness found in the best LED displays.

How do Consumers know that they are really getting these specs?

The UHD Alliance isn’t allowing on manufacturers to let their own measurements define whether or not their products can carry the logo. On the contrary, the UHD Alliance will be putting manufacturers’ products to the test. To make sure that products bearing the Ultra HD Premium logo are certified and conform to the UHD Alliance’s specifications, the Alliance has designated multiple, independent centers around the globe to handle testing. Companies will work directly with these centers to have their products tested and certified.

All in all, the UHD Alliance’s Ultra HD Premium designation is a big deal. No, it doesn’t mean that there’s yet another new technology out there. What it does is guarantee that the products bearing the logo will deliver the most of what Ultra HD has to offer."

None at the Grand Parkway Best Buy in Katy, TX. If I have time this afternoon, I may swing by the one on I-10.

The one in Eastgate? I'm about to hit up the Florence store. It's really close to where I work.

I would say that nearly every store is going to still have these in the back either burried under 30 other boxes or not even opened and scanned into the system yet. They actually don't go anywhere yet until next week. I just happened know these were coming, found the 4K signage and cleared out some 3D movies that going back next week anyway.

At least in case of The Martian, there's been confirmation that it's a hybrid of up sampled and down sampled (5K live-action) material. As others have been keen to stress it's not going to be a huge deal-breaker (as that's we get in theatrical presentations anyway), but I thought that the Premium label was reserved for titles that feature 4K and above sources across the board?

So... let's assume that a lot of folks go to their local BB for the new titles and don't see them on display. What would be your suggestion as to what folks should do? Check the computer? Ask for someone to check the stock room (and if so, are the boxes marked in a special way for quick recognition)?

I'd really appreciate a helpful suggestion or two. Thanks much.

Here's the front and back of 7 that came in.
Cool! However, you should clear out the regular 3D titles under the 4k banner or uneducated people will get confused.

Nobody, there's always idiots at the pickup line. Well, not always, most of the time. I got similar responses myself at several BBs.

Not gonna keep pushing it when I know they'll be there on Sunday.

Everything from Fox comes in a red box. They should be looking for one with a sticker that says something like "UHD Set 2/14/2016."

It was either that or have people thinking the 4Ks were 3D.

I went to my closest Best Buy and when I didn't see any in stock (I saw that they were going clear part of the 3D area for them to have in stock on Sunday), I went to customer service. The lady there checked store stock but nothing was in their store yet (I gave her the item number for Kingsman). But she did say that the San Francisco downtown store had 10 of them in stock. She said that the major BB stores get the shipments in first.

So I would go to your BB and do the same thing, or just call to find out which of the BB branches is the biggest one in your area and call them directly.

Surely it's a case for consumer watchdog if they do not meet the Ultra HD Premium logo requirements.

I'm not sure how long the website will take to be fixed but if they look up the sku in the system the street dates have been updated to 2/11.

I also told them that Life of Pi, Maze Runner, and X-Men DOFP were still listed with a 2/28 street date. They said those discs had a manufacturing delay but I found an order from Fox with a delivery date of tomorrow so they are going to look into it.

Without firm details on the launch we can only go on what's in emails and on the website, I don't think it's a case for consumer watchdog and more of a case of just being patient. Personally I think this is more of a problem for the business involved with making the product and not the customer.

Tried this at Florence, KY spoke to GM Josh and he was a total tool about it and refused the sale. That's bad for business.
