For those of you with problems with the Warner 2.0 tracks, what receiver are you using? I have a Panasonic BD-55 connected to a Pioneer Elite unit, via HDMI.
There seems to be a problem with most of the early DTS HD-MA 2.0 tracks from WB. Obviously we have Grumpy Old Men, but I also had problems with the the DTS 2.0 tracks on Presumed Innocent/Frantic and Funny Farm/Spies Like Us. fitprod |

My AVR is Pioneer Elite SC 05. It is set to automatically detect the selected audio source & has worked well. The problem is with this disc or movie, not my equipment. I know since I have many hundreds of DVDs & scores of BDs that play perfectly well.
No reply yet from WB, I have requested a replacement movie from Amazon & they are already shipping it to me. If the new one also will not play correctly I will give up & return it. Hopefully, it is some error on my specific BD & not a defect that causes it to not play correctly on certain players. |

Just bought this set and also find the DTS 2.0 annoying. With Dolby 2.0 I can turn on Pro-Logic decoding so the dialogue plays out of the central channel, but with DTS it's forced into the 2 side channels.
I have to go into the player's settings and disable DTS so it comes out as regular PCM so I can use Pro-Logic. This would be a dealbreaker for me with other WB catalog titles that aren't 5.1. |

Update:
I had sent the movie back to Amazon for an exchange & the replacement has the same problem. Cannot hear the DTS Master Audio 2.0 sound track in the Blu Ray “Grumpy Old Men.” I emailed WB Home entertainment & didn’t get a reply. My equipment is Panasonic DMP BD 80 Blu Ray player & Pioneer Sc 05 AVR. My AVR is set to automatically detect the audio format. I tried the spanish & the French track & they play just fine but they are not DTS Master Audio. I wonder if the stand alone version of GOM would play since it is Dolby True HD & not DTS? But, there is not stand alone Grumpier. I enjoy silent movies but kind of ruins this one ![]() |

Check Amazon reviews for this product & you will see several others have audio trouble as did I & others here. It may be certain AVRs or perhaps certain AVRs cannot decode the unusual DTS MA 2.0. I also do not want to change my AVR settings to watch this & then change them back (If I remember) to watch EVERY OTHER BD OR DVD out there.

Or is it limited to this specific movie?
I would love to hear from anyone who had the same audio problem & tried a different movie with DTS MA 2.0 ! That would prove whether some equipment cannot play this particular audio format or if the trouble is limited to this particular movie. DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 BDs: Grumpy Old Men DTS-HD MA 2.0/ Grumpier Old Men /DTS-HD MA 5.1 Blair Witch Project DTS-HD MA 2.0 Bad Lieutenant - DTS-HD MA 2.0 Bloodsport - DTS-HD MA 2.0 Clash of the Titans (1981) - DTS-HD MA 2.0 Ancient Aliens:The Complete Season One - DTS-HD MA 2.0 PRESUMED INNOCENT/FRANTIC - both DTS-HD MA 2.0 |

I tried out the 2.1 sound last time I watched Grumpy Old Men and didn't have any problems. I have a 2.1 anyways so it was perfect for me. Using an S-350.
As for the transfer of Grumpier Old Men, I think it was filmed with that hue and we are actually watching a faithful transfer. |

No Ceiling,
If you look at pp 4 & 5 of this thread & if you check the few bad scores on Amazon.com for this double feature -- you’ll see that some people have a huge problem with the audio. Namely that it is silent! No sound output at all. Spanish & French tracks & the Grumpier movie play just fine. So, this is not about debating the nuances of which type of audio track sounds better or how many speakers you have hooked up. There is some MAJOR issue with either this particular movie or perhaps with any & all DTS MA 2.0 tracks. Maybe certain players or AVRs cannot decode the DTS MA 2.0 while decoding the other DTS 5.1 or 4.0 tracks just fine. For me it is very disappointing as I saw both movies in the theater & like them & will not buy the 4:3 DVDs. Until this is resolved I plan on avoiding any DTS MA 2.0 movies. My Pioneer SC 05 & my Panasonic DMP BD 80 work just fine for my other hundreds of movies including scores of BDs. |

Thats what I meant. I didn't have any problems meaning there WAS sound. Not debating "nuances" with anybody. I can say how many speakers I have because this is the only 2.0 DTS MA Blu I have. Apparently some work and some don't. So chill...

Seems like I offended you. That was not my intention. I just posted a reply to clarify & emphasize the major issue that a minority of people seem to have with this movie by WB. I thought it could be misunderstood by some that I & others are generally complaining about the 2.0 compared to the various lossless 5.1 or 7.1 formats.
This is my only DTS MA 2.0 also. (And will remain so until & unless I can verify the same problem would NOT occur with any other DTS MA 2.0) For some reason either the BD player or the AVR cannot decode this movie. |

Several other threads about this issue. Turns out that certain AVRs are unable to decode DTS MA 2.0 w/o a firmware update. Particularly Pioneer such as Sc05 & Sc07. Unfortunately , this requires a service center to accomplish. Newer model AVRs can do firmware updates online w/o a service call.
Pioneer admitted & fixed this reluctantly. Many telephone calls but they paid & all is well. Also not every authorized service center knows how to do firmware updates, at least this was the case back when I had this issue 12-2010. Until you get the firmware update if you have a Panasonic BD player: I called Panasonic & they suggested I change the BD player from bitstream to PCM. This worked & I suspect is the work-a-round for anyone with this issue. It is annoying to need to change the setting for one movie & then to remember to change it back to bitstream afterwards or else lose the ability to have your AVR decode the audio codecs for virtually any other BD or DVD. |

That single case release came out before the double feature combo pack. I know because I purchased the single release and then sold it so I could get the Double Feature. |
