Although, I didn't care for it Detective Byomkesh Bakshi! is a non-stereotype pulp detective thriller that might grab your fancy.
Piku was a very well-made funny heart-warmer about the relationship between an aged hypochondriac and his suffering daughter. Dum Laga ke Haisha was a sweet low-key social+rom-com set in a small town where an illiterate guy with an inferiority complex is married off to a plump graduate girl. If HD is not an absolute necessity there's a fantastic bleak and brutal crime drama called Titli, which for my money was the best Hindi film of last year. Available as a 2-DVD special edition. If you're not hung up on Hindi films also check out this excellent humorous Tamil heist caper called Soodhu Kavvum. |

Loved the other two you suggested @infiniteCR, try Johnny Gaddar. No BD yet, but a truly good movie. |

Thank you ravenus and anibap. Also interested in Piku, I had seen that one at amazon with Irfan Khan and couldn't decide from the reviews if it was going to be ok or not. I will definitely pick it up now. I know its not part of this subject, but at that time I also picked up PK and Fanaa with Amir Khan that I look forward to watching. Think I also got one called Vinglish.
I have some more shopping to go do thanks to you fellows. Thanks ![]() As I watch them all, I promise to find the right threads as well. |

I can't find Johnny Gaddar ![]() EDIT: Okay, I found it. Needed to spell it Gaddaar. But now it lists only French subtitles. Do you know if this is also available with English subtitles? Last edited by infiniteCR; 02-18-2016 at 09:36 PM. |

Btw, I don't even know enough to know if Tamil vs Hindi matters to me. But I purchased the following just now:
Masaan Talvar Titli DVD 2 disc Soodhu Kavvum bluray (wow this one was hard to get) Haider Ishqiya Piku Dum Laga Ke Hasha EDIT: I found UGLY bluray and ordered it. Amazon miscategorizes these all the time arghh. I held off on the other detective movie that you guys didn't care for since I trust you guys! As you can see, I'm interested in pretty much everything. Very excited to get to watch some more of these. Any comments/feedback that is positive or negative is welcome! Last edited by infiniteCR; 02-18-2016 at 09:30 PM. |

It the best thriller/slasher anti-hero pulp thriller Bollywood made since BAAZIGAR or ever made. It demands repeat viewing and every character is 3-dimentional. Best directoral effort of Mr. Raghavan. I think we really got lucky. Raghavan, DOP and editor all did Audio Commentary on Big Cinema's DVD release. I hope someday, when BRD comes out. The BRD makers are smart enough to slap the Audio Commentary on BRD release. |
