I think the artwork on the Studio Canal blu-ray is gorgeous. I hope it gets a US release on blu. In any case, I'll be holding on to my DVD because of the isolated soundtrack, which is an indispensable bonus. |

What are the chances Criterion would do David Fincher's Sony movies:
Panic Room (the one with young Kristen Stewart), Social Network & Girl with Dragon Tattoo? Panic & Tattoo may be too mainstream but Social Network is a good candidate. Also, I really hope Criterion would re-release Seven. I used to own the Laserdisc version, and the transfer on that one is amazing, and the special features are just mind boggling. |

You don't have to register for any other Amazon sites once you've registered for one. You can use your login details at any store. You don't even have to input your payment details again.

Also, like the US site, prices fluctuate. So does the exchange rate, but not as much as prices. I got my single disc version of the new transfer of The Third Man for about $23 in November last year. You don't pay VAT when importing, so that gets deducted from the price at checkout; however, the shipping costs essentially add that back. I tend to wait to order until I have a batch of blu-rays and CDs to save on shipping. Shipping from the UK takes about 7 days. Last edited by oildude; 02-21-2016 at 05:41 PM. |

OK, I just tried it there and it lowers the BD price to 19.17 GBP after you try to check out... Now I get it. Sort of. Doesn't matter now. |

But it is important. If I'm lukewarm about buying a movie, but the packaging/cover art is awesome, that will occasionally persuade me to buy it. Or if there are multiple versions/transfers available and the PQ difference is negligible, then I will pay a few dollars more to get the one with the superior packaging. I don't think it's that weird. But I like to wear jorts and T-shirts with wild animals on them in the summertime...so what do I know? |

Persuasion comes into play when I'm looking at two different copies of the same film but, extras are way more important to me. Extras justify making me spend $10 more for a Blu-Ray... Which is why I buy Criterions although they are usually a lot more expensive. |

Finally got around to watching The Innocents last night.
![]() Loved it. Had no idea what to expect, but immensely enjoyed it. It genuinely creeped me out, though I do do myself a favour by always watching such movies at night in darkness, for added ambiance. The use of vignetting to darken the outer edges during indoor/night scenes worked to perfection. |

Popped in Night and the City for this Sunday afternoon and I'm really glad I did. It delivered what I was seeking, and in some ways surprised me. The lead is the antithesis with the noir archetype. He's cowardly, skirts by on blatant lies, and rarely has the upper-hand from his own doing. Widmark embodies him perfectly, always looking far too out of his element with his poor posture in suits that seem a size too large for him. You're just waiting for the repercussions from his own misguided doing to come crashing down on him.
[Show spoiler] If only he had accepted the possibility of what could have been with a former lover, instead of being driven by the greed that has come to mark him. What made me initially want to watch this today, aside from my fondness for all things noir, was Gene Tierney. I was disappointed to see she didn't have that much of a substantial role, seeing how her presence inherently enhances whatever noir she happens to be in, but I'll take what I can get. Next on the list: Ride the Pink Horse. That is, if I don't end up fulfilling my Tierney desire by viewing Laura. |
