I plan to and will need to get an early start to do it in one day I'm sure!
I thought about watching just the regular theater editions for Lord of the Rings back to back, adding up to 9 hours or so, then the Hobbit films, 9 more hours give or take, so 18 hours in one day easily for the extended versions.

I have the extended Lord of the Rings, but the only one I feel was really well added to would be Return of the King. In Fellowship, there were about 20 minutes of fan credits, which was a total disappointment when believing that was going to be extra scenes in the movie.

I doubt we'll see the original trilogy in 3D any time soon.

I would watch The Hobbit, then LoTR. I plan on it the day after I receive the extended version of tbotfa.

You're right, Hobbit first, then Lord of the Rings, even if Rings is the older series made, based on the books' and movies' time line.

Rather than one day, I'd try to fit them in one movie per day if possible.

I'm sure that I'll do a Hobbit marathon at some point, just like I did with The Lord of the Rings extended cuts last year. Both together would be pointlessly difficult.

You go ahead, guys. I'll do my exhaustive "watch-all-the-extras-on-the-extended-editions"-marathon soon. Never watched any of those, and they were also one of the main reasons to actually buy the more expensive Extended Editions

I've never been a marathon watcher so I guess it would take me about two weeks to watch the Extended Cuts of all 6 movies and all the extra's / making of featurettes

If I do it,it won't be all in one day. It may take me 2 or 3 days to go thru all the EE's.

I'd consider it a minor miracle if I could get through all 6 films in a week.

We did a LOTR EE marathon with DVD before BD existed. I don't like The Hobbit enough to do an EE Hobbit marathon. Maybe one each day for 3 days.

I am a small business owner and older and much more tired. ... ...

Default Best The Hobbit movie in 3D

I own the Amazon special box set of The Hobbit and I love both the Blu-ray and 3D versions.
In your experience, out of all 3 parts of the movie trilogy, which one features the most stunning visuals in 3D?

Visually, they are all the same to me. Storywise, I enjoyed Desolation of Smaug most.

I think he was referring that you could just ask this in the 3D thread for Hobbit that already exists :-)

That being said - I enjoyed the first one in 3D HFR (though I think it mainly sticks in my mind due to being the first HFR I've seen). 2 was darker, and the barrel scene go-pro footage kills it for me.

Above is the most recent Hobbit 3D thread. I'll admit, the search tool even in Advanced Search is not intuitive in that if I type "hobbit 3D", it brings up a list of Star Wars VII, and every other movie but the Hobbit. When I adjust some settings like "Search by Title only", it finally brings it up.

I'd say Fellowship, once they got out of the hobbit home, had pretty good medium range 3D layers. The third one was good too, along with parts of 2. In general though, the 3D could've been pushed a lot more as it was mostly conservative compared to stronger 3D films.

Battle of 5 armies has my favorite 3d out of the three.

The built in search is pretty weak...
I usually use google site search "site:forum.blu-ray.com hobbit 3D"

Thank you guys. The Search button is not very useful indeed.
I think both the story and 3D go from good (episode 1) to good (episode 2) to great (episode 3).
The Battle of the 5 Armies features some of the most eye-popping 3D effects during the battle scenes. I love 300-like battle scenes and Peter Jackson managed to make the audience feel the weight and magnitude of these armies without making it just a gore fest

The battle scenes are indeed considerably enhanced by the 3D (as are all the scenes in tunnels and caves) and there's no way I'd watch any of the three films again in 2D, but I wouldn't really go so far as to say that there were any "eye-popping" 3D effects in any of them.

When I said Fellowship 3D, I meant to say Unexpected Journey 3D.
