mike, whatever discourse there's been was based around the presumed knowledge that until TFA there wasn't a 15/70 print produced for any new movie since Interstellar in late 2014, so anything you saw there since then would've been 2K digital by default. They haven't removed their 15/70 rig to my knowledge, it's just that there's been sod all to actually play on it (save for IMAX documentaries or theme nights like TDK) for the last 16 months or so.
And Disney apparently insisted that venues with 2K 3D digital and 15/70 were to play the 2K digital version, which is why I've previously said "there's no 15/70 at the BFI" in relation to Star Wars, whereas 15/70 venues without either 3D digital or Laser like the Science Museum were afforded the luxury of the 15/70 print. |

AFAIK he said if you could see it in IMAX 3D you should, and Disney was able to book pretty much *all* IMAX venues with TFA (something Interstellar was not able to do) - that's pretty powerful pull. Not to mention he's been endorsed by both Spielberg and Lucas. Also, since only a single sequence was IMAX why push it? My preferred presentation was the 2D Dolby Cinema (dem black starfields!). It's been a while since I've seen a 15/70 presentation. Though have they said how much is going to be true IMAX? The majority of footage I've seen looks 35MM anamorphic sourced. |

I won't be surprised if we actually get around 45 mins of IMAX footage in BvS. We've already got all these different scenes as described in the above post confirmed as using IMAX. |

You're right though, I shouldn't have gotten so bent out of shape for missing out on just one 15/70 IMAX sequence... Quote:

EDIT: Dammit we were posting this at the same time LOL!
Good news for us @Geoff D - the BFI IMAX announced today that they will be showing the 15/70mm 2D print of BvS! https://www.facebook.com/bfiimax/pho...233242/?type=3 So far the theatres confirmed are IMAX Sydney, the BFI in London, and in the US - Indiana State Museum IMAX, McWane Science Centre Dome in Birmingham, AL, and the Fort Lauderdale Museum IMAX. I'm told the list of theatres should be similar to TFA but with a couple of changes. Also thankfully digital IMAXes will be offering 2D showings too in the US at least, IMAX won't force all shows to be 3D but it's down to each cinema to program them. OH HELL YES! BFI IMAX London have CONFIRMED they're getting a 2D 15/70 print of BvS. I am actually jumping up and down in my seat right now. I need to get out more, clearly, but **** it: I'm super stoked right now.

I fully expected WB to offer both 2D and 3D IMAX showings since they have often done so (In the Heart of the Sea, The Hobbit, Man of Steel, Harry Potter, etc.), I think it's mainly Disney who insists on only 3D showings for IMAX. |

I'm pretty sure there will not be anymore 15/70 3D releases. With the cost of even the 2D prints being too prohibitive for most studios and theaters, doubt they will incur the extra expense of doing dual strip for 3D, plus many of the sites those 15/70 prints would play are in IMAX domes which can't do 3D anyway.

Now that we have IMAX laser, we don't need film based IMAX releases!
