I took a gamble on ordering the Czech release of Ghoul and it paid off - the disc is fully English friendly. Even the English subtitles that appear for the bits of foreign dialogue are removeable - just as well, given that they do go right through the 3D a number of times.

It's a found footage style film shot in 3D just for the sake of it, it seems. I generally hate found footage movies and can't say this one changed my opinion of them. I certainly wouldn't watch this in 2D. Annoying young documentary crew investigate legend of whatever (Ukrainian cannibals in this case) and bad things happen. Not much reward for sitting through lots of shouting, shakycam and bad camerawork unless you're playing a 'tick the found footage cliches' drinking game. Take a drink every time the camera is dropped. Maybe place a bet on when it will go into night vision or when someone will ask "are you filming this?"

If you can tolerate shakycam then the 3D shouldn't give you headaches, it's natural and bright. A little bit of ghosting for me early on, but I stopped noticing it after a while. What I did notice was the actors breaking out of the screen throughout so it's not all about depth, but this is done naturally, there are no obvious pop-outs - it's definitely not one for fans of in-your-face 3D. Depth fetishists will be right at home though, the interiors are deep and really do benefit from the 3D. It doesn't sound like much, but it makes all the difference to me. Most of the film is set in and around an old farmhouse, so there are outbuildings, an attic, woods, tunnels etc - all of which naturally look better in 3D.

It's a tough one to recommend. As far as 3D shakycam movies go, it wasn't as interesting as Paranormal Activity The Ghost Dimension or even Banshee Chapter but if you like these kinds of films then this is easily one of the best of its type, just by the virtue of being in 3D.

I got it here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ghoul-BD-3d-...words=ghoul+3d

At the bottom of the page it says "Audio: Czech ONLY! Subtitles: None" but that's garbage because this edition features English audio and English subtitles for the foreign dialogue parts. These were switched on for me when I selected "Subtitles off" from the main menu, but I could switch them off entirely via my remote.

I watched goosebumps and the 3d looked good to me also on my lg oled. I watched life of pi and what a good movie with decent 3d and some beautiful scenery throughout the movie.

"I watched goosebumps and the 3d looked good to me also on my lg oled."

Hi evoll...

I'm curious about OLED 3D TVs. How do you like yours? Is it active or passive? Do you notice any ghosting?

Thanks

Picked up a used copy of Goosebumps 3D for the family.

We watched it last night and my eight year-old was sufficiently entertained.

This is basically Pixels 3D for kids...effects driven, stock mosters, nothing complicated.

The movie and the 3D were OK, but strong PQ in general and good effects improved things.

The 3D seemed a bit mild and I do wish the movie had been 1.85 with a little stronger 3D.

Recommend for family viewing.

I have one too. It's passive. I've never seen any ghosting. Hugo looked amazing, and I know that's one that had some complaints about ghosting when it was released. I'm very happy with the LG Oled. Not cheap though. I'm sure if you had the space a projector might be much better value. I live in a smallish condo so that option wasn't available for me. I would definitely buy it again though.

GOG - Okay. Let's face it. This movie is bad. But the good news is that the 3D is good. But the movie is really bad. Almost not fun bad. Luckily a friend was over last night who appreciates these kind of movies and we had a double feature of Turbo Kid and GOG.

Anyway, a few beers in and we went Mystery Science Theater on GOG and that made it more palatable. I have never seen a film with so much exposition and explanation in my life. I think I could run their underground base very easily if I ever went there. No tour needed.

The color and 3D is very similar to The Bubble with a lot less pop-outs unfortunately. Still, some fun is to be had with this movie. Especially the robots with the gigantic hard-ons. There is a part near the end just like the movie Love. Only with robots.

Movie: 2 out of 5
3D: 4.5 out of 5

What I watched last night:

Transformers: Age of Extinction 3D --- I'm not a Transformer fan. I didn't care for the first Transformer movie, don't even recall the subsequent ones. But recently getting a 3D TV and reading the reviews I decided to take a chance on TAOE. No regrets. The story was secondary (but not bad -- ***1/2) to the visual and audio (both *****). Lots of booming bass. I found the story engaging, maybe a bit too long and repetitive, but entertaining. Its ***** 3D could serve as a reference disc for non-animation, 'live' action (another that comes to mind is Pacific Rim). TAOE is bright, colorful, and has superb dimension. I was so involved in the movie visuals that I never noticed the change in screen size between 1:78 and 2:40. Don't expect to see too much in front of the screen. Given the long 165 minute viewing time, there's relatively little 'in-your-face'. It's here and there to remind you that there could be more but intentionally kept to a minimum. Highly recommended for home theater 3D.

Had some Amazon credits to use up so I ordered a few things that looked good pricewise:

Everest 3D, MIB3 3D, MegaMind 3D .

I needed to hit $49 to get free shipping, so apparently Amazon raised the minimum.

Also found a cheap copy of Rio2 3D locally, don't have the first one but it was only $8.

I haven't seen any ghosting yet and before the oled a had a Samsung plasma with active 3d and hugo plus a couple of other 3d movies had some ghosting but not with the oled. It seems like the oled 3d is a tad better also like stuff is off the screen more and idk if its the curve of the screen making it look that way or what it is. Having both active and passive I would def buy the passive now cuz it has less ghosting and easier on the eyes.

The first one is one of our faves over here with some very witty humor. One of the few titles that get to be both a great flick and immersive in 3D. The second one is mindless/children's fare that is more of a mandatory one and done after enjoying the first one. Only reason I tell you all this is because I don't want you to automatically discount the first one after seeing the second one.

Thanks a lot evoll. Good to hear your first-hand experience with this new technology.

Thanks very much for your insights. Passive seems to work better on OLED. I have an active plasma and a passive LCD and the ghosting/crosstalk is about the same on both; not much of a problem most of the time but it's definitely there in Hugo on both screens.

You have a curved screen? I'm curious as to the point of those. How's it working out for you?

During the last week:

Hotel Transylvania 2

OK 3D but the movie itself is just uninspired. I smiled maybe 3 or 4 times - thats it.

The Walk

The 3D was very nice for a conversion - almost native like in many scenes. My wife suffered slightly from vertigo but I guess I'm just too much used to 3D to have the same problem.

Más negro que la noche (Darker Than Night)

Fantastic native 3D. VERY strong. But the movie... maybe the laziest writing for any horror movie. Pure clichés all the way through.

Germany gets all the best stuff. I don't suppose the disc is English-friendly?

Only German subtitles - sorry.
Edit: I guess you could follow the movie without any subtitles just fine. There's really nothing complicated going on.

Is the original Spanish language on there? My wife speaks a bit of that so I could get her to tell me what's going on...

When I was looking at buying a tv I was looking at a 4k sony (plasma got burn in from the nfl network lower right logo) at B.B. and they didn't have the oled right next to the 4k led's but I kept looking at diff. models and the wife said look at that tv which so happen to be the oled. They had age of ultron loop playing on all the TV's and we couldn't help but notice how much better the oled looked compared to the other tvs (black levels, colors) so that was what we decided to go with and all total we paid $1508 out the door (sale plus signed up for the B.B. card knocked the price down). The curve didn't make me want it or not like it any less but I like it a lot with the curve now, it is a very subtle curve but it seems to have less glare with the way our rooms lights are set up. Next year I can see stepping up to a 65 inch 4k oled since the tech. will be more of a standard and at 65-70 inch the 4k will be a lot more noticeable than at 55 inches. We have a Samsung 55 inch 8550 4k tv down stairs but comparing the 2 tvs we still like the oled PQ better so we watch all our movies on it.

Last night I watched:

IMAX: Under the Sea 3D. I'll cut to the chase--- Under the Sea 3D is the most spectacular 3D I have seen, bar none. Now, I haven't seen every 3D, and I've read there are other IMAX 3D films that might rival it, but this is unquestionably a reference 3D to show off your home theater. Incredible dimension that begins in front of the screen, with pop-outs in-your-face -- this 3D has everything, and it does everything perfectly. It's bright, colorful, has incredible photography, and the music and audio add to the experience. It's only 41 minutes long, so if you want to show it to friends or guests, it won't take the entire evening. This is the disc I'll use to showcase my home theater. I'm looking forward to seeing IMAX Deep Sea 3D and IMAX Hubble 3D (which I have yet to own).
