I am looking to buy either a ps3 or a blu-ray standalone player. I was wondering if either or both have a zoom function for the blu-ray discs (not standard dvds) I like buying nfl dvds and eventually they are going to be on blu-ray i'm sure, (I don't need any advice on which to buy, just want to know which ones have it and if none do will it be a updated feature) Thanks for the help.

Hello,
I was just about to post the same thing. Need to know if there are any players with Zoom feature? Or maybe this is not possible with BR? Would like to go with one of the new Panie's if they have it. Thank you, Mr. Bear |

I couldn't tell you for sure, but why don't you use the zoom feature from your TV. Then again, not all TV's have a zoom option.

One of the posts here mentioned that Sharp BD-HP20U has a zoom on the remote. I purchased a Sharp BD-HP21U and it does not. Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone else might be leaning towards that model. I'll be returning the Sharp BD-HP21U that I bought and I don't think the BD-HP20U is still available.
Is there a reason that Blu-Ray players don't come with a zoom/aspect control? It's pretty much standard on normal DVD players and is a feature I can't live without. Has anyone found a model that has this feature, preferably on the remote? |

I have a Panasonic projector. When I watch movies that have black bars across the top and bottom I PREFER to zoom the aspect ratio in order to fill the screen space. It's just a preference. The panny's zoom tends to stretch the picture instead of zooming the picture.
I think the question was: Does there exist a Blu-Ray player that has a manual zoom/aspect control feature, preferably on the remote control? |

i think some of these blu ray guru's we have in here need to be revaluated! The guy was asking a simple yes or no question. And you guru's have to get off the subject. Why does it matter what this guy is going to use the zoom for! Maybe he has some porn that wants to look at it a liitle closer. Hell, let me know if there is one so i can zoom, zoom!

I didn't mean a zoom as in "zoom in on a specific area of the screen" (excepting porn!) I meant I was looking to enlarge the picture so the black bars at the top and bottom disappear and the sides get cut off instead. It's a compromise I live with for the sake of a larger picture.
When I watch HD television I can change aspect ratios the same way since my cable box supports that feature and have never noticed a decrease in picture quality. I can't recall having to do that since HD television does not usually broadcast in letterbox, but it was an experiment. Thanks for all the opinions, though. I read the Phillips user manual and it states that the zoom function doesn't work with Blu-Ray movies, only regular DVD. The new Sharps don't have the feature at all. It seems odd to me that something standard on nearly every normal DVD player would not even be an option on Blu-Ray (for stupid people like me). Thanks again. |

I also would like a zoom feature. My TV has a zoom option, but it doesn't zoom to the level I want. While there are some movies that I prefer to watch on my widescreen Plasma even though there are black bars at the top and bottom, I like to have the choice in case I want to have the picture fill the entire screen.
I bought a Samsung BD-P1500 and it does NOT have the zoom. I'm going to take it back and try to find a model that does have it. I also think it's goofy that this simple feature would not have been added to all the Blu-ray players. It's so common on all other DVD players. ![]() |
