It's really quite sad how blatantly every other studio is just trying to copy Marvel (now Disney) and their Avengers strategy - first WB their DC properties, now Sony with Spider-Man... But the problem is, Spider-Man is not big enough for all of these spinoff films. Sure, we want to see the epic conclusion that they're clearly aiming for with everything coming together, but these in-between films will be mildly interesting at best.
It's a good thing Hulk was always still Marvel's and not Universal's, or I'm sure they would be scraping to figure out how to squeeze 5 films out of his rogue's gallery of villains. ![]() nah, Disney/Marvel doesn't need to copy everyone else. They're the leaders and the other studios are trying their best to copycat. |

But to be serious, don't be surprised if they do a bunch of spin-off movies even with the villians as Disney does that sort of thing. There are a lot of their direct-to-video releases that use the secondary characters and pretty much as soon as the Star Wars purchase was announced so were the one-off movies so I could see them trying this sort of thing. |

The villain idea is pretty neat. We need studios trying different things or it'll all get samey after a while. |

It's been all-samey for awhile now, villains generally don't get their own movies because people don't enjoy seeing the bad guys win. That's why I hope this happens, Venom is one of the best Marvel villains and has enough back-story and character development to actually warrant at least a trilogy of films.

I don't enjoy Loki though, at least not the one in the live-action films. Comes off as too much of a tool and a sissy to be a mastermind villain with the power to destroy Earth. Dude even stood down against a mere human in Tony Stark, granted that human was wearing a battle suit.

Sony has tapped Dante Harper to pen a script for Venom, something that is being envisioned as a franchise apart from and unrelated to the upcoming Spider-Man movie in the works with actor Tom Holland. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, stewards of the Spider-Man properties, are producing and overseeing the project. Venom is one of Marvel’s top villains and a Spider-Man fixture since he was introduced in 1988, created by writer David Michelinie and artists Todd McFarlane and Mike Zeck. The character is an alien symbiote that need a human host to survive. In return, the alien empowers its victim with incredible powers. For the longest time, Venom was a villain but then morphed into an anti-hero and even (almost) good guy. In his current incarnation, Venom is paired with Flash Thompson, a Peter Parker bully-turned-close friend and now a government agent. It is unclear which Venom incarnation is being used for the new project. The character made its screen appearance in Spider-Man 3 and was played by Topher Grace. A spin-off has been in development in several incarnations, with Gary Ross and Josh Trank among the director coming and going, and writers such as Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (Deadpool) and Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci penning versions. This Venom is meant to not only stand on its own but to also launch its own franchise. Palak Patel and Eric Fineman are overseeing Venom for Sony’s Columbia label. Harper is an up-and-coming scribe who did rewrite work on Edge of Tomorrow, the time travel sci-fi movie that starred Tom Cruise. He also co-wrote Sleepless Night, the crime thriller that stars Jamie Foxx and Dermot Mulroney. |

I remember reading (I think it was in the Sony leaks) that Kevin Feige did not want Arad anywhere near Spider-Man now that they're sharing the rights. That's a good thing, especially since Arad is at it again trying to ***** out the franchise. |
