Yeah I'm all for MOD. The AACS fees are crazy high for a technology that's already been broken. Small labels like Flicker Alley need to get around that somehow.

I'm more worried about whether or not the discs will play in my machine, what exactly is contained on the discs (digitally restored image? extras? or just an as-is upconverted SD master?) and what the lifespan of those discs are.

With a pressed disc I know what I'm getting and reviews can reveal what the content is like. With BD-R's it's all up in the air and reviews will be few and far between.

The lifespan is likely less, and that's why I keep back-ups of DVD-rs just in case. DVDTalk does lots of DVD-r reviews and I'm sure they will be eager to review these as well.

The vast majority of players will play BD-Rs (although the Xbox One will not, at least not yet). Perhaps you can check in your manual if your player is compatible.

The nice thing (assuming they are really HD and not upscaled SD masters) is that they can release just about anything on BD-r that they can on DVD-r. So it opens up a LOT of films to Blu-ray that otherwise simply aren't feasible via pressed discs.

Don't know if this is old news, but I just saw on FB that FA currently sell L'INHUMAINE for $29.95!

Clicked to their page and saw that they had various sale prices on (almost?) everything.

I ended up buying L'INHUMAINE, Woman on the Run and Too Late for Tears. Total price inluding shipping to Sweden was $112.35, I can live with that

UPDATE:

New street date for Too Late For Tears (1949) and Woman on the Run (1950) is May 10th.

Both will feature optional English SDH subtitles.

Love FA's releases but they really don't help sway purchasing with any of their artwork...

I usually wait for good deals when it comes to Blus, but never feel bad paying a premium for Flicker Alley releases since I feel like it is going towards an important effort to preserve film history.

I'm in Europe at the moment so picked up the French edition of L'HUMAINE to take back to the States with me. I saved over $10 from buying the FA copy. I need to save every cent these days. I'm just hoping both versions are identical.

Go back a page in this thread, those are the first 2 blu-ray MOD titles from Flicker Alley. I haven't seen a definitive release date yet.

I have the disc, but have not yet been able to sample it because where I'm staying, there is no Blu player. The outer slipbox cover of the Blu says on the back that the language options are French and English. The bonus features listed are the same as on the FA copy and I'm assuming they have English options. I would think the two versions are identical because they are each produced by Lobster. When I can watch the disc, I'll post more info unless someone else has the French disc and can enlighten us before then.

L'Inhumaine Blu-ray REVIEW

Absolutely incredible film. In fact, I would say that it is one of the most ambitious silent projects that I have seen.

The 4K restoration from Lobster Films is stunning. The encoding, however, could have been better. Still, this is one of this year's most exciting releases.

It is on a BD-25 BD-R - I was able to make a copy onto an MDISC 25GB BD-R which should outlast the disc included.

Could you give us a feedback about the technical presentations ? I've only seen screencaptures of it and it seems washed out as hell.
