Default Motionflow, standard or high.. yer preference

To be honest I had never really messed with this setting and always kept on Standard.. I had read that its best to keep on standard and keep that cinemotion on Auto1

I think older movies look better when turned on High, I was watching TCM and now the Thing. For newer movies I think the picture goes too fast when turned on High.. and I just leave it on Standard

You could always turn it off, but i think the motion enhancements make the picture a MILLION times more lifelike and eyepopping.

EDIT: BTW blow is a damn good movie

I turn it on high on my XBR4 to show people what it does but I noticed when watching blu-rays the picture will get almost static looking lines sometimes, so I keep it off, anyways I read that to get True 24p you need to have it off as it inserts frames......

This "no motion blur on my plasma" thing is ridiculous. Film makers know, that you can't pan too fast in 24 frame. It will blur on fast pans, even if you watch it on a $200,000 Christie!

yeah seriously. plasma people need to make a club and spread lcd hate amongst themselves. this thread has nothing to do with plasma. can't people be happy with what they have?

plasma's do not suffer with motion blur! Motion blur on lcd's is excessive blocking, that occurs on lcd screens because they cannot refresh fast enough...intended blur is intended blur, but motion blur is a blocking effect on LCD's that does not happen on plasma's...

Blur isn't intended blur, it's just that movies are still standardized in 24fps, it has it's limitations... While some people say they like the "effect", it's not really an effect, it's just what it is. I am looking forward to them adopting 48fps on movies, they have been talking about it for years.

Brett,

I am sorry you had a bad LCD, but I have never seen blur on my set. Especially in the manner you explain it. Motion blur on lcd's is excessive blocking

Granted, not all sets are created equal. I would say not all plasmas are better than LCDs and not all LCDs are better than plasmas.

Considering the new Samsung LCD had a better motion resolution than all of the plasmas tested, I would call your generalization false.

if there is no motion blur on lcd's, what is the purpose of 120hz or motionflow on lcd's?

i ask this as an lcd owner that as far as i have read and heard the "plasma dude" has it right lol. one of the limitations of lcd's that is in the process of being overcome.

ok fair point, but the lcd's still need have motion flow technology in order to reduce motion blur on the sets. Plasmas need no such feature as the refresh rates of plasma tv's far exceed LCD.

I will admit that LCD technology is improving rapidly but overall i still feel they are behind plasma's mainly due to the motion blur that still occurs on the majority of lcd's that are sold today. i am glad that you like your tv though. i loved the PQ of my sammy when it was working, but the motion blur was awful on my sammy

Yeah, I dont get blur either unless I am watching Nascar and they are at track level, then there is some, sometimes. And the PQ with the settings I use is really really close to my friends calibrated 85U. I think his PQ edges mine a little, but he says its the same...IDK Anyways, I too am getting kinda tired of the LCD bashing lately. Some people don't want Plasmas

to the OP, I would just leave the 120hz off, I cannot stand the way it looks and with Native 24 fps, you don't need it on a blu.
