That's not the consumers they're talking about though. They're refering to the folks who're skiddish over any HD format at all due to the war, and who don't realize that supporting a hybrid is counter-productive to a war resolution.

They're looking at gaining consumer share more so from the DVD market than either of their existing HD customers. Unforunately, delaying one format war [BD/HD-DVD] in favor of the other [Hi-Def / DVD] isn't a good idea unless you're really just hoping for Video on Demand services...

You know what THD is an acronym for right? Total Highdef Distortion. I hope this doesn't happen. Makes about as much sense as releasing a dual sided Hd Dud disc.

Hopefully TotalHD=Delayed will mean TotalHD=Dismissed

I would never purchase TotalHD

I know people from the Dud side will love it if this comes out especially when their beloved Hd-DUD is about to die. Hopefully Blu-Ray will kill this debate by the end of the holiday season.

Default Total HD = DIVX

Remember Divx? That's what will happen to these. I think this is the most stupidest ideas I have ever heard. It ranks up there with Divx. Why in hell would I want an HD-DVD?? Absolutely pointless. I bet this will end up at Circuit City and bomb.

I understand Warner's intentions. From a marketing standpoint, they want to provide content that pleases everyone... however, this format war is just that, A WAR. You have to pick a side. I am an avid Blu-ray enthusiast and I despise the idea of sharing the "artwork side" of a future BD movie with HD DVD. It's wrong and I won't do it. I truly hope this war wraps up this holiday season. I think we have the artillery... lock and load and let's end this! Note to Warner (if anyone from the company happens to see this)... Your company owns rights to an excellent library of video titles. Please release Matrix, Batman Begins, V for Vendetta, etc... on Blu-ray and watch your profits soar. We WILL buy them but ONLY as Blu-ray releases, NOT totalHD. Thank you! Amen!

Default Warner delays HD/Blu-ray Discs until 2008

Steve Nickerson, senior vice president of marketing management for Warner, said: "There is no expiration date on the viability of this concept, so we're not in a rush to do it. We'll do it when it makes sense and when it's right."

It's all about demand...If enough pepole ask for it..they will have to go for it.

Yes this is good news that Total HD discs have been delayed. What would be better news is if the concept was canceled. If Warner and other studios supported TotalHD discs then both formats could coexist or at the very minimum the format war would be prolonged.
I sure do not want to pay an extra $5+ dollars for a side of the disc I can not play, and if combo players were to become the norm then TotalHD discs is a very bad idea. I am glad that the DVD format when it was launched back in 1997 that they did not include a VHS tape with every DVD. The reason of course was cost.
Let’s all hope Total HD disc is canceled instead of delayed. Here is another couple of links to articles on the subject.

Best news I've heard all day. But, I doubt they'll drop their plans. They've probably already invested too much in it. I'm sure the HD DVD promotion group is happy about it at least.

But the studio is committed to satisfying consumers.
If that's true, they're not listening to the actual consumers of their products. As few supporting BD or HD DVD seem to want such an abomination. It's good for nobody, except Warner.

Warner would scrap THD completely if they're really committed to satisfying consumers.

Great news. I hope THD never sees the light of day. I think WB has read the writing on the wall.

I cringe whenever THD is mentioned. I'm not going to pay more for a side that I'll never use. Hopefully their next annoucement will be that they're scrapping all their THD plans.

I know i exhaled a sigh of relief when I read this! I was dreading releases on THD......so much so, that I was considering not buying them at all.

Hmm...another thought just occurred to me on this topic. I believe Warner said that when they start to release New Line films they would be on THD. I wonder if this means that the New Line titles would be delayed as well?

My guess is that they won't. Which would actually jive with previous rumors that LOTR: EE would be released on Blu-Ray (which they probably wouldn't have enough space to do with THD).
