Default the test pattern easter egg

hey guys. while i know it's dumb and not worth discussion, i'm bored at work. anyway, as you all know the test patterns on the sony BRs are accessed by inputting 7669. i was looking at my phone today and realized 7669 spells sony using the letters on each key. yeah.... stupid... i know

Default Sony calibration Easter egg

Hey guys. I had a couple of questions about these test patterns. First of all, I have Avia, however I guess that's not really made to calibrate DLP sets, which I have. Will the Sony patterns work for DLP? Also, these patterns are different from what I'm used to working with. Does anybody have a quick and dirty how to for these? Thanks!

I think paidgeek explained them on the insiders thread (or some other thread).
You have the colors bars, you have the monoscope (that's the white one with the black resolution bars/patterns) (multiply the number by 100) which also has arrows pointing the edges of the 1080 x 1920 frame so you can have an idea of the overscan too. Then there's solid color patterns, and I think it has a gray ramp? or some other pattern used for advanced testing (Can't remember, it's been a while) (I do remember some early titles had one pattern that didn't show on later titles)

Avia works fine for calibrating DLP. But only for DVD sources.

Default Picture Calibration Easter Egg

Last night I opened up my Final Fantasy BluRay and there was a BluRay info brochure on the left side. So, I was sittin' on the "throne" reading through the booklet and I read that I should:

Try the Picture Calibration Easter Egg available on every SPHE Blu-Ray Disc - from the menu simply type SONY - which correspond to the numbers (7669) on your remote control...Compatible with the Playstation 3 System.

So, I did just that, and BOOM my PS3 started to run through some WHACKY looking LSD laden pics. So, I guess it calibrated my TV for me or something.

Anyone have the 411 on exactly what this does for your system? I did not really notice any difference, but then again I am not Carl Zeiss...

Do you recommend the film? I saw it in the Cinema and left not entirely happy but considering I've forgotten about it and grown up a little since then I might give it another shot.

1st one is color, you need color filters (filters $4, colors reb blue green ) to use that right.
2nd is for tv sharpness setting (the circles & small lines) & over scan
3rd is contrast
the last is, I think, for centering

Well this does nothing to your system at all. These are nothing more than a means to manually adjust your settings (brightness, sharpness, tint, contrast...etc.) on your TV. Just by accessing this menu and going through the screens does not do any automatic adjustment to your settings.

I got FF: TSW also and have a PS3. How do I do the calibration? I do not have the blu-ray remote, only the controller.

I would have enjoyed it in the theatre a lot more if it had not been called Final Fantasy. I was frustrated at how little it had to do w/ any FF.

However it is a good film, it should have just been titled "The Spirits Within".

I have both the Blu-Ray and the Special Ed'. Between upconverting the SD to 1080i and running the Blu-Ray version, other than the Blu' having less 'graininess' to the over all PQ, I see absolutely no difference in quality. No difference in color saturation, detail, contrast etc...

...hopefully those filters will come w/the long overdue Video Essentials HD disc. I seem to remember that was the case w/the DVD......but that was years ago.

No you need to do it manually

THX is actually working on a system using the HDMI 1.3 control codes to automatically calibrate your set for each movie's individual characteristics
