I'm certainly going plasma the first chance I get, probably gonna nab a Pioneer 5020. Gotta wait and see how this economy is going to go though, and maybe prices will fall because of it.

There are a number of positive LCD users that have hit this post but it seems like more Plasma users have made their positive comments.

But maybe Plasma owners are more verbal.

My LCD works fine, but I hear plasma has better viewing angles...and at the moment our TV is a bit higher than the couch and the tv looks darker while sitting on the couch

That is great info. for me.

My TV will be about 5 ft above the couch (over the fireplace).

Thanks

Plasma does not suffer from motion blur, the color pallets on plasma are the most realistic you will get and the blacks are the blackest you will find.

Both technologies suffer from dead pixels. LCD more so than plasma but plasma can still suffer with dead pixels.

Plasmas on the other hand can get Image retention! Now lets not get image retention and burn in mixed up here! Burn in is almost impossible to achieve on plasmas now. yes it CAN happen if you are completely reckless with the TV, but a static image will take 15-20 hours to burn in to the screen. LCD can also suffer from burn in as well

Now image retention. If you follow the 100 hour break in procedure on plasma's you will not have to worry bout IR. I have about 450-500 hours on my plasma now and have never had any image retention. All you have to do is make sure the settings are not above 50 on the contrast, brightness etc and that no black bars are present for the first 100 hours, then you will be golden. The reason you need to do this is so that the phosphors can get an even burn at the beginning of the tv's life! A little bit of patience in the beginning will ensure that you plasma gives you the bet possible picture you can get!

At the end of the day though it is personal preference. I prefer plasmas over LCD because of the wonderful, true to life color pallet, i also enjoy not having motion blur. Others enjoy the vivid colors LCD. it is all down to your personal taste!

Good luck with the decision making
What Mr.Brett says! I have an LCD, and i'm dissapointed with the blurring... Buy a Plasma and we'll trade

LCD's especially the non 120 hz are horrible with motion blur. Everyone that would like to know how some of the current sets perform with motion blur need to check out this site.

I would say that if you're really only going to use it for watching movies and regular TV then buy a Plasma, if you are big on gaming then choose and LCD.

That's the most ignorant thing I've heard today...I don't get why everyone thinks LCD is better for gaming than a Plasma.. burn in is almost NON- EXISTENT. Your not going to get burn-in unless you keep your game on a pause menu for 24 hours like an idiotic fool. Plasma > LCD.

that new test is pretty interesting,my panasonic plasma seemed to do very well(see model # in my sig) ,does anybody have a link to the 2007 test results? I looked for it on that link but everything I clicked on ended up being a dead link ,I'm curious to see how my Mitsubishi DLP ranked.

A question for you:

It seems for gaming just about everyone says "LCD."

My question why LCD for gaming?

People are afraid of burn in. I game and I have a Panasonic Plasma HDTV. Just break it in properly and calibrate the set as well. It doesn't have to be professionally calibrated if you don't have the money, but atleast buy a nice calibration disc. That way you won't blast the brightness and backlight all the way up, which could increase your risk of burn in.

Also don't play the same game for hours at a time. I mean like 4+ hours. If you game for like 2-3 hours you should be ok. There was a few nights I played for like 3 hours and never had burn in. I had very little image retention, but it went away. The image retention was barely visible as well.
