Thanks Ray..your right..930-940 has HDR..850c does not..so I guess that firmware update that said the 850c will support HDR really does not..bear with me I am new to all this..I can't even find HDMI 2.0a cables..even on Amazon..guess I have to wait to get HDR whenever I get a new tv which won't be for awile since I just got this one 3 months ago..oh well

U receive hdr on the sony 850c. It just has a lower amount of nits. You still receive the hdr benefit |

Thank you guys..one more question..when I hooked up 4K player to Tv it jacked up my brightness and contrast to max..I thought you were not suppose to have those settings that high..will it damage my Tv in anyway or shortin the lifespan of Tv?

I also have the 850c and it definitely has HDR but I am having an issue with the picture settings as well... I am having banding in the Peanuts movie and it's definitely because of color settings since I can increase and reduce it based on playing with settings. I posted in the Peanuts movie since it's the only movie I've seen it in so far but it's very frustrating. I adjusted the settings on the player and tv best I can by eye but I think until some sort of calibration disc comes out it is going to be extremely frustrating.

Amazon delivered mine last night. I ran new hdmi cables and played a little. No issues to report. It powered on fine, remote is small, but not the horror I had heard.
I have an LG 55UB8500 (4K with no HDR). The first full movie I have watched on the player was Hotel Transylvania 2 with my kids. All important settings set to auto on the player, TV set to the 10 bit hdmi 3 port, with deep color turned on. I really can't imagine a blu-ray looking any better than this. I am going to order the Hdfury Integral soon so I can us this 10 bit port to play UHD Blu-ray. |

It would be great if someone could answer this question, I'm seriously considering buy this but the lack of films for it is scaring me off; does the player upscale blu rays better than a TV would, or does it basically do the same thing as a 4K TV? Thanks.

I have zero actual proof, but see the post right above your post. The blu-ray looks fabulous. Is it in my head? I don't know.

Samsung UHD player owners with SDR UHD displays may find the comments by Stacey Spears interesting:

Interesting aside about the HDR metadata on the UHD discs though, with some discs carrying across the 4000 nit brightness information (as MaxCLL data, I assume) from the underlying Dolby Vision grade. That was true for a Warners disc (Mad Max) and seeing as Sony have also licenced Dolby's HDR grading tools then that may also hold true for the Sony UHD releases too. Now all we need is a 4000 nit consumer display to test them on! ![]() |

Watching Mad Max on the format and while the picture is for the most part better than my vudu or copy the banding issues and screen tearing are killing me. I don't have it with any other device including a Roku 4 but it is terrible. I'm not sure if it's the HDR (although it doesn't happen on Amazon HDR) or a setting on the player but it has me ready to return it.

Not sure if your Sony set is doing the same thing or not. Just sounded familiar when I read your post. Also does the settings go back to the way you had them once you stop watching the 4K disc? |

Watching Mad Max now.
![]() Someone posted the colors were wrong on the flare explosives. My set clearly shows red-left yellow-right. Will check the detail DNR issue at 48:16 as I get to that part.. Will update. Edit All good! Last edited by Derb; 03-12-2016 at 02:01 AM. |

![]() No that's not how it works at all. But hdr is graded alot darker, so having the backlight at 20 doesn't make it bright. As a matter of fact alot of people still find it too dark. If they do there's a few options. Bump up gamma, brightness, or dynamic contrast which is sorta like turning on a light switch in the tv. |

When I played exodus, I had to bump up the brightness. On the other hand, when I watched the Martian, I had to tone it down. I'm sure there is some sort of happy medium but.... I do my best, I'm happy with the results, just wish there was some more content. I told myself I wouldn't rebut and now I have eight.
