Regarding Renoir, I love The River and I like A Day in the Country, La Grand Illusion, and The Rules of the Game. However, I'm not head over heels with the latter three and am content with having seen them once.

...hence why I'm conflicted. Haha.

Yes you are totally right. Still want this one from Arrow Video if the price drops a little.
Last month I got in a little of Croneberg/Argento frenzy with Shivers SB; the Fly SB; Naked Lunch SB; Rabid SB(on the way) and last week Scanners. For Argento it was Four Flies On Grey Velvet(Shameless); Suspiria; Opera( Mediabook German)

For Ingmar Bergman it should be PERSONA or Scenes from a Marriage

Just ordered for under € 9,- the Steelbook from Eureka MoC:

I'm oddly compelled to shake the dust off of my Criterion Blu-ray of Dazed and Confused. The Destroyer songs are not featured prominently on the soundtrack, but I know that, on the last day of school in 1976, they were all listening to it.
When I was seven I got my first little red and white record player. To go along with it my parents for some unknown reason got me Kiss Destroyer. Not sure what about four painted devils dancing over hell piqued their interest, but I've been a Kiss fan ever since.

Well, to be fair, ShadeRF didn't say that it was OOP, but that there had been talk of it going OOP. And there was...talk, that is. The talk wasn't unreasonable, as rumors were going around that Criterion was losing the rights to Head. This rumor was strengthened last summer when the separate release of Five Easy Pieces contained the documentary that had been on the Head disc in the set.

How it will all fall out remains to be seen, but, yes, for now, the set is still readily available.

This was one of my wishes for this announcement, but yes, I was just waiting to see what Criterion comes up, compare, and then get the best release.
I also think it will be very hard to top of the extras of the Eureka release.
Now, if only they could release Gandahar too!

I've watched several episodes of Pete and Pete recently, and was surprised how well its absurdist humor has held up over the last 20 years. I will never forget Big Pete attempting to blow up passing cars with mental powers, even if it only worked once.

Did someone say La Chienne?

(For those who don't know, that's the one I requested in person last year.)

Probably because Rhino is including it in the stupidly expensive Monkees box set the majority of Monkees fans can't afford.

I guess the rumour based on last year's cartoon of Scorsese's After Hours being released by Criterion is just that, a rumour. Maybe Warner Archive can release it, or Scorcese's prestige is too big for this specialty label from Warners?

Not taking credit. Pretty sure it was already in the works even then, just nobody knew it. I'm just happy it is coming.

Going to be a weird month. I expect some haters.

I do not know these films enough to hate the month or love it...It is the most unknown month for me in last 2 years or so...if that's going to be the list.

I have only watched 2 films by Renoir. Loved The River but did not like A Day in the country so much...and I have Rules of the game, but yet to watch it. I think I will be happy to consider La Chienne if it is released.

Haters gonna hate. All I know is there are some great releases coming out in the next few months. I don't know all of them but that doesn't make them bad.

The clues don't always mean a release this year, as the clue for Bitter Rice was like 5 years ago. Criterion is slow.

We've been discussing documentaries somewhat here over the past few days, and while it's not a Criterion release, one I have to highly recommend is I Knew It Was You: Rediscovering John Cazale. It was originally done for HBO in 2009, and it's now being included with the 40th Anniversary Blu-ray release of Dog Day Afternoon.

Cazale was a brilliant performer, a man that conveyed such vulnerability one minute, and then would burst with intensity the next. The love and reverence people still hold for him, nearly 40 years after his passing, is unmistakable. The list of men and women who took the time to share their recollections of working with John, or how he inspired them as actors, reads like a who's who of Hollywood over the last four decades: Meryl Streep, Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, Gene Hackman, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Olympia Dukakis, Richard Dreyfus, Steve Buscemi, Francis Ford Coppola, Sidney Lumet, Sam Rockwell, Carole Kane. Dog Day Afternoon would be worth owning on its own, of course. But this newest release with the Cazale documentary adds incredible value. It's 40 minutes long, but you really get a sense for the man, and the performer. His first love was the theater, and from working in that environment, he brought incredible improvisational skills to the movie set. Pacino talked about how he was always asking questions, always in character, and he would throw little idiosyncrasies into scenes, things that were not in the script, that added an added dimension to the character, or the moment. Meryl Streep, who was very much in love with Cazale, talked about how John wanted to continue working while he was dying from lung cancer. I knew that the studio wanted to replace Cazale, and Streep threatened to walk off the set, and quit the movie if they did. What I didn't know, however, was that Cazale was uninsurable because of the cancer. If he became too sick to work, or passed away in the middle of filming, the studio would realize an enormous expense to replace him. Robert DeNiro felt so strongly about John's being in the film that, according to Meryl Streep, he put up the money himself to secure the bond so Cazale could be in the movie. His scenes had to be shot first, and he died before The Deer Hunter was released. But I cannot imagine the film without him, and that speaks to DeNiro's generosity.

If you don't have this new Blu-ray, get it, guys. You'll not only get one of the best films of the 1970s, you'll get a documentary that will greatly enhance your appreciation for Cazale's performances in the Godfather I & II, Dog Day Afternoon, The Conversation, and The Deer Hunter.

4K restoration of The Manchurian Candidate is mind-blowing. I watched the MGM Blu-ray at the beginning of the year and it's night and day.

The movie is still the movie. No other film's final minutes can make my heart race uncontrollably like this one.

My favorite line from the film:
[Show spoiler]You couldn't've stopped them, the Army couldn't've stopped them, so I had to.

I'm psyched to see a possible Criterion release for Fantastic Planet. If nothing else, I like seeing more animated titles in the collection. The movie itself is definitely artsy and nutty, but it is an interesting vision.
