Were all of these movies theatrically released? Seems like one or more were made for TV.

However both 77 and 79 have extended versions that feature lots of extra footage, shot specifically for TV airing. 77 has about 40 mins, I'm not sure how much 79 has, but I have both TV versions on VHS buried somewhere in a box.

I wish they would include all the extra TV portions also. but I think we are getting the same BLU discs that were issued overseas.

This is the only movie franchise where I can say I saw every film in the theater. I was a kid when AIRPORT came out...but I was big into airplanes so I made the trip to the Garrick Theater. I was in high school when AIRPORT 75 came out and I caught that with a friend from school. Later, I suffered through AIRPORT 77 but AIRPORT 79 THE CONCORDE was such a hoot that I really enjoyed it.

I wonder why Airport '77 gets picked as the worst of the film in the series so often. Is it because of the implausibility of a jumbo jet surviving intact at the bottom of the ocean floor? I agree it's a silly notion but it's still a very entertaining disaster flick. I always think of this film whenever I fly

No, it's a filthy lie created by flare gun enthusiasts who believe that sticking an arm out the Concorde's cockpit window during high speed flight in order to shoot a flare gun to take down a heat seeking missile is completely plausible and deeply rooted in physics.

The Concorde is widely considered the worst of the sequels and it's one of the worst big budget studio films ever released (it's so dumb, it's kind of spectacular). '77 is generally considered the best of the sequels (rated highest on Rottentomatoes) even if '75 is better known thanks to it being a bit of a camp classic and the Airport film to get parodied specifically in Airplane!

It was my favourite as well because of premise but you got to admit, it's pretty ridiculous

For anyone who's interested in checking it out, the whole stewardess flying the plane element, with instructions radioed from the control tower on the ground, is totally borrowed from this old Doris Day movie:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julie_%281956_film%29

I don't say this to criticize Airport 75, just pointing it out in case anyone's interested in a similar film.

I like Airport '77 the least simply because I find it a bit dull and dry. Airport 1975 and Airport '79 both range from far-fetched to outright ridiculous but they are extremely entertaining. Even the fact that the planes are constantly in motion creates ongoing excitement. In Airport '77, once they're stuck underwater they're just kind of stuck there waiting to be rescued.

Lee Grant gives it her all in '77, her's the most entertaining performance in all the Airport films, as the ultimate "wive from hell" (to long suffering Christopher Lee no less!) One reason why I like '77 the best of is because it has the most interesting cast and I'm quite happy to be stuck with them under water.

Wow! I had forgotten how much was added for the TV miniseries version of Airport 77, says here 75 minutes of additional material:

http://www.jimusnr.com/airport77.html

Details on the additional scenes here:

It's got a great cast and it's probably the best actual movie of the series, but I think a lot of people go into these films for the reasons I mentioned above and considering the sheer "so bad it's good" entertainment value of the two entries it's sandwiched between, it pales by comparison.

I think the first film is by far the best movie in the series, but '77 is still one of the better 70s disaster films. It doesn't compete on a "so bad it's good" level with the other two sequels, it's actually a decent film and reasonably entertaining if you like that type of film. I just watched it again recently because I got all the sequels from France and it still holds up rather well. Unlike the other two sequels, it actually looks like it had some money spent on it.

It's my favorite of all the Airport movies. Part of the reason to me is the great Jack Lemmon as the pilot. I always found the movie and it's premise entertaining. I remember as a kid it's the one I enjoyed watching the most when they came on TV.

Anyone else noticed on the Bluray Cover: "Theater Quality Sound".
What does this mean? Will it be restored or not?
I'm a Little bit sceptic

Truer (and funnier) words were rarely spoken. "Firing a flare out the side vent of an inverted Concorde' is what the phrase should be instead of 'jump the shark' when it comes time to describe the point of no return with respect to credibility in storytelling.

Having still never seen '77 all the way through (even though I've seen 1975 10 times, the original a few times and the CONC twice), I'm guessing maybe it doesn't have the same bit of humor to leaven things? I mean, 1975 is practically spoofing its own situation (but in character) when Patroni replies to an inquiry about flight 409 by saying something like, 'there's not a whole helluva lot of damage - just a big hole where the pilots usually sit.' It was almost a early-Bond approach to crazy plotting, where you make a virtue of it.
