edited my post, with 2 sources from books which classify the film in the british film noir.

here's a 3rd source:

Mr.Lime just posted this on the Kino Lorber thread. I believe this film qualifies as Western Film Noir like Pursued and Ramrod:

Yeah, I'd say it does. Great movie, can't believe Kino got it. Their Fox deal is going to reap so many great movies including a few Noir films

Yeah, I had mentioned a week or two ago that I just bought it on DVD, so hopefully that "sacrifice" leads to it showing up on BD soon

Speaking of Western noir, I wish Criterion would finally release a Blu-ray version of The Furies.

This is the French theatrical poster and it just screams NOIR!

We appreciate it!

"Every boy has a dog!"

Edit: I just realized that my post could be misinterpreted. The quote has nothing to do with you; I just always loved that line from Nightmare Alley.

Twilight Time has announced a double-feature release of Tony Rome (1967) and Lady in Cement (1968), starring Frank Sinatra (and Raquel Welch in the latter ). Both are classified as being neo-noir.

Quote:
Ex-cop-turned-private eye Tony Rome (Frank Sinatra) needs work, so when his former partner shows up with a seemingly easy job tracking down a spoiled heiress (Sue Lyon), Tony jumps on the case. He finds the woman quickly, but when her father (Simon Oakland) discovers that her jewelry has gone missing, he hires Tony to find the thieves. Tony's investigation angers the wrong people, and when his partner ends up dead, he discovers there may be more to this case than some missing jewelry.

Quote:
While diving for sunken treasure, street-smart gumshoe Tony Rome (Frank Sinatra) finds the body of a gorgeous blonde, her feet stuck in a block of cement. Soon after, tough guy Waldo Gronski (Dan Blocker) hires him to find a missing woman named Sandra Lomax, and Rome wonders if there's a connection. He sets about trying to locate the woman, and in no time finds himself mixed up with a beautiful party girl (Raquel Welch) and a slippery racketeer (Martin Gabel).

I liked the films but I don't think spending $30 US is worth seeing them in higher def. I got the DVD's for $6 each Canadian and they look great.

I think Twilight Time is a rip off. Especially when they justify their higher price as "limited editions" and then re-release the films.

There's only been a handful of re-releases, and they won't be doing anymore after the ones they already have scheduled. Value is subjective, but since this might be the only way to get it on BD, I'm sure it's worth it for some.

They do have sales from time to time (like right now), so this could be an eligible title in one of those too

They don't "justify" the higher prices by making them "limited editions". Both of those things are characteristics of the kind of licensing deals they make with the studios. They pay the entire license fee up front, and the limitation to 3000 copies is pretty much because that's all they can afford. People seem to think that Twilight Time is laughing all the way to the bank, but they aren't. They are "notorious" for their titles going out of print quickly, but the truth is that only about 30 out of 200+ releases have sold out.

Although not quite a noir, Kino's upcoming release of Deadline - U.S.A. will have an audio commentary form Eddie Muller. Kino has also just posted the cover art, which is pretty awesome:

Kino has announced another Fox Noir! They'll be releasing Road House (1948) this Summet.

Quote:
Richard Widmark plays the borderline-psycho owner of a combination road house and bowling alley. Widmark's singer, Ida Lupino, begins exhibiting an interest in his manager, Cornel Wilde. To get even with Wilde, Widmark frames him on a robbery charge, then has the unlucky fellow released in his custody. The sadistic Widmark takes every opportunity to flaunt his control over Conte, but this only serves to deepen the relationship between Wilde and Lupino.
