For alot it would. True die hard dvd collecting fans probably won't. I enjoy having the cases and the collections. Also like to see the expression on peoples faces when they see my rack of movies.

Do a search on the forums page about digital distribution, HD downloads, etc. We've had many debates about this. I for one believe that in the US we do not have the bandwidth to support it.

Good link. the Second paragraph is very pleasing for this site.

The reason is simple; Blu-ray, always the favourite to win but never seemingly having the momentum to fully outpace its rival, has finally started to pull ahead in a meaningful way. The finish line is in sight.

There just simply isn't enough bandwidth for digital distribution at this point. Ecspecially for high definition! I don't want no super compressed HD, which would be the only viable option. I have 12Mbps internet....which still isn't going to cut it.
Verizon Fios and other FTP providers are the only consumer friendly services which could take advantage of digital distribution at this point. And those services are not readily available to the general population.
There are STILL people on dial-up. Hard to believe, I know!!!

And besides all of that, I want to OWN my media. I want a case and a disc. I don't want to have a hard drive full of movies.

ON G4TV the other day, Bill Hunt was on AOTS talking about this topic. He had some good points which I totally agree with.

1.Digital music distribution has been around for a lot longer than digital movie distribution and its sales only account for about 15% (I think was the number) of total music sales, most people still buy CDs. So why expect movies to be any better?

2.A point that a lot of other here have also said, most of us are "collectors". We like to have the physical disk to sit on a shelf.

3.What happens if your hard drive crashes?

I know I'm missing some other points, if I think of them I will post them.
