To make it clear and not to be accused of faking anything:

The scan will be done in 4K from the interpositive frame by frame on a highend machine, but will be downsampled to 2K within the process. We made this decision because the only provided 35mm source is an interpositive and not any original negative. So 4Kto2K is a reasonable way to get most of the image-information. 4K with 4K workflow would have been a good decision, if we would have had access to any negative print. Also 4K with 4k workflow would be much more expensive. I think DeLuxe is a good choice to perform the scan at.

Don't worry, it is not going to be like MOONTRAP! haha

HAUNTED HILLS is owned by Cassandra Peterson unlike her first movie ELVIRA - MOTD.

Wow! Germany has done a lot of good to the cult movie scene! We've had the restorations of Re-Animator, Society and Bride of Re-Animator come from Germany, so I don't expect any less to be done!

I don't mind waiting. I'd say in this situation, no news is good news. They're taking their time, likely so it doesn't turn into a botched rush job.

They're hard at work.

They're hard at work.

1. Right-Situation:

Rights are managed by Lakeshore Entertainment. Image is the north american licensee until later in 2018, which rather would result in a 2019 US-Release.

2. As for what we are doing:

I actually would prefer to have all info released on the official announcement.

But here is what is happening right now:

Restoration is going to be finished in about 2 weeks. And even though our scan was made at DeLuxe in LA (like Live and Die in L.A. by arrow), our postproduction studio (the same which takes care of different italian classic horror movies) in Germany had to fix a lot of issues which were based on the inter-positive of the film.

However, this is going to be fixed and finished soon. The movie will look awesome, trust me.

What keeps us busy on the other end are the special features, which we are still producing. Tony Timpone is doing awesome work. And if everything works out you will find a longer featurette on Disc 3.

Some people who were involved in the movie are just not so easy to get ahold of, and some others... well... we will see.

Don't worry, this is going to be really good! We actually have our frogtown release ready, but since that is based on the lakeshore scan, I rather would like to announce both titles at the same time for order/pre-order, since frogtown is not the strong product which ELVIRA - MOTD is going to be.

3 discs?! Wunderbar!
I am so excited for your release. Really appreciate you going the extra mile.

I believe Image owns the US rights until 2018, when the movie turns 30.
[Show spoiler]I turn 30 the same year.

I'm not sure if Criterion's ever dealt with Image before. Who has rights to New World Pictures in the US now anyway?
