So it was just the two PS4s you bought then?

I see where you're coming from re: the price but, as I've mentioned once or twice before , Panasonic were asking for £400 for their high-end BDT700 Blu-ray deck so tacking on another £150/£200 for UHD playback actually seems super-cheap if you look at it that way. But if someone's averse to the brand and no doubt thinks that £400 for the regular BD spinner was far too much to begin with, then that's fair enough.

Me, I love their players and the BDT700 - being one of the few modern Panny decks equipped with a Uniphier rather than MediaTek SoC - was teasing and tempting me for a good long while, even at £400, so getting the UHD player allows me to scratch both itches at the same time. Don't get me wrong, even I have limits as I said that I wouldn't go near the player if it were nearer a grand but for £549 I'm taking a punt on it.

I'm with you on the two HDMI ports. I don't see the PS4.5k featuring two and without it I would have to upgrade my receiver to accomodate the (true) 4k signal. I think there would be many out there that will be running HDMI audio to their amps and another for video to their UHD TV. With this in mind the Panny is looking pretty good at this stage. Only issue is that it's all quiet on the Aussie front when it comes to UHD and the majors.

Sure, it's just I didn't get a reply to either of my cancellation email requests...but now that I've checked my account I can see that they cancelled it yesterday afternoon. To give them their due they offered to price match the donaghy bros price but I'd already placed my order with the latter so I had to decline their offer, I don't think they were too pleased! Oh well, I've saved meself £50 in any case.

But that's how hardware launches usually are, they don't often have an official launch date that's set in stone. If you've read the AVF thread then you'll know that several people have been told that Panasonic will start shipping them to retailers on the week beginning the 11th of April.

Retailers will then get them as part of their regular delivery schedule for that week which could be any day from Monday to Friday, so if Panasonic were to publicly state that "it's released on the 11th" then people would end up being disappointed because only the shops with stock deliveries scheduled for that day would actually receive them on that day.

You've gotta remember this isn't some sort of centralised Apple-style roll-out where they can control every minute aspect of the launch, Panasonic have a lot of different outlets to supply and they will all have to wait their turn to get the stock. This is nothing new in the world of retail for brown goods.

I, like most, have been waiting for a UHD player since my first uhd tv in 2014. Why is it that waiting the last few weeks leading up to it is the hardest to take!

I don't know how I'm gonna sleep next week when it's down to a mere few hours.

Pre-ordered from Super-Fi, anyone heard their expected delivery dates, went for pre 12pm delivery. Same here, just can't wait. Feel like my 79x900B needs something that's genuinely UHD!!

If I buy this will it still be able to play new UHD discs and have them work on my regular HD setup?

Like the Samsung it should downconvert to 8 bit 1080p.

However, regular Blu-ray's are still region locked. You have to buy this unit within your home region.... or use a separate Blu-ray player in conjunction with this unit.

Default DMP-UB900 on Amazon UK

this is now listed on Amazon UK, but no stock apparently... and £649!

Panasonic DMP-UB900

.. and the sponsored link:

http://hanley.store.panasonic.co.uk/...FUSVGwodrGcCzw

"Special Offer starting 21st April, Get this 4k bluray player for 1/2 price when purchased with a DX902 or DX802 Tv"

makes you wonder if the player won't be released until 21st then.
