True, and maybe if they're also co-writing then the movie could be salvaged. But a big part of making 21/22 Jump St. work was the tone they were able to strike.

As for the MIB cast, hopefully Smith and Jones can be lured back but IIRC Smith (and maybe Jones) was already ruled out a year or so ago. I dunno how they could bring Brolin back.

Sony don't half have some nutters working for them.

Yeah, and Men In Black is quite a slapstick franchise.

The one thing I've seen many concerned with online is that they'd have to make it PG as an R-rated Men In Black movie would make it inaccessible to their already-established audience, although I think it could make for some interesting meta-references so long as they don't feel too forced.

I don't think it would be too hard considering time travel was established in the third film. Again: could be used as a meta joke - not totally original but maybe about Hollywood running out of ideas so having to repeat what has already been done in the franchise.

That's a good point, I actually hadn't even considered the rating. MIBs were PG-13 here in the States, but I think Jump Street could work within that framework. (Although I think bumping MIB up to the R level would be better.)

I would be surprised if they did that though. The highest rating I would expect a film featuring the Men In Black universe to get is probably a 12.

PG-13 or R was one of my first questions when the idea was floated.

My guess is it will end up being R since with Hill and Tatum returning but not Smith and Jones, I'm guessing they are going to want to retain the Jump Street duo's banter rather than tone it down. And then this seems like a possible reboot for MiB plus fans of the earlier films have now aged, so I'm guessing they might not be as worried about limiting that fan base with an R.

This is still a horrible idea; the properties have completely different sensibilities and fanbases.

This, basically. I'm still astounded that Sony would even consider this. It's like a poor April fool's day joke.

There seems to be a few bad ideas at the moment. This movie could possibly be one if Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones don't return but I also can't believe someone is seriously making an animated film about emojis sailing through Spotify in a boat.

It's a brilliant, very unique idea, actually.
