Just watched the mask and was really impressed with the tru 3d that was put back in the film as opposed to the anaglyph version . So was wondering if Bob could answer this question . could you do the same for Freddy's dead ?

If the separate 35mm left/right elements exist, yes!

Nightmare on Elm Street: Freddy's Dead 3D was filmed in 3D I'm guessing, since conversions weren't established back then like they are now.
Thanks for that info. For a restoration of 90 minutes of 3D, a cost of $12,000 dollars I imagine. Always interesting to hear how much things cost regarding 3D restoration, production, conversions, etc. Speaking of conversions, Robert, some of us were wondering how much most current blockbuster special effects movies cost to post convert to 3D these days compared to filming in 3D. I'm guessing it's less than Titanic's 18 million dollars direct conversion from 2D frames. If you have a rough idea of what it might cost, that would be very interesting to hear to get a better idea of how much studios have to invest in 3D. I wish they all filmed in strong 3D but they tend to go for 3D post conversions to save time and money on the set. |

I have no idea but I can tell you when I looked into converting the historic YOSEMITE 3-D footage from 1922, the lowest price I could get was $25K per minute.
Needless to say, it didn't happen! http://www.3dfilmarchive.com/home/holygrail |

Seems like a relatively trivial expense for them to overlook.
If just a small fraction of what gets spent on big money conversions could be diverted to preserving native celluloid 3-D, taking it into the digital realm, it seems like it would go a long way. |

Has the 3-D Film Archive ever considered trying a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the restoration of a title for which the rights are available, but financing difficult to secure?
I know that I'd jump at the chance to support such an endeavor and get some more vintage 3-D out on Blu-Ray, with the potential for some cool backer rewards. |

I'd love to see it but the issue with a Freddy's Dead conversion would be that only three to five minutes of the film is actually in 3D. Unless you do a full modern conversion the only part that would benefit is the part that was 3D in theaters when Nancy puts on her glasses at the end to fight Freddy in his world. The 3D ends when Freddy blows up.

Any conversion work would be misguided, and a total waste of time and money. Just present films as they were originally intended, especially when it's technically feasible, inexpensive, and wouldn't use up much disc space. |

The ending 3D sequence runs just over 13 minutes and
could be used as a bonus feature on a disc or presented on a compilation disc like 3D Rarities. I used to order field sequential 3D movies from a couple guys that took a shot at it. They used the 2D version for one eye and tweaked the anaglyph version to get the other eye. It wasn't completely successful but looked a lot better than the blurry anaglyph. |

I would love to see Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare get a stand alone release on Blu-ray but with the 3-D ending converted to Real 3-D for 3-D TV's instead of the Anaglyph 3-D like they used in theaters.
There are rumors Scream Factory is working on a new "Nightmare on Elm Street" Box Set, Maybe they will make this happen? |

The thought of having to order another box set from Scream Factory fills me with dread. All three of the 3D Blu-rays they've released to date have serious issues and their box sets are full of discs that look like they've been handled by Freddy Krueger himself. There isn't a company I would be less happy about releasing this, should it ever happen.
