I just got the 500's they are great! It is easier to find a good deal on the rti series right now though and they are a higher series. You can find Rti 12's for the same price or cheaper some times.
I demoed the tsi 400's next to some klipsch rf-52's I think and I found the Polks to be much more precise in the higher frequencies but the Klipsch speakers hit way lower. It all depends on the kind of sound you like.Neither speaker was wired optimally or hooked to a good amp though. It was at Best Buy

I also noticed the samething. I have always heard Klispch speakers as being much lower in tone. The tweeters are louder in the Klipsch speakers as well. I am jsut not sure if the Klipsch tweeters are as accurate as the Polks.

Yeah I think the horns are more directional and they don't go as high 20khz compared to the tsi's at 24khz.

Yeah, I'd like to see some!

How does the CS10 do with the 50's? I am still learning about Polk's models and such, but don't know much about the CS10/CS20 as compared to the CS1/CS2.

I was watching Speed Racer last night and there are a LOT of panning dialog sequences as the person speaking sweeps into view from one side and pans to the other. The Polk 60/CS2 combination handled this so seamlessly at first I didn't even really notice it. It's kind of a nice method of testing matching speakers.

everything seems matched pretty well to me. i think the cs10 is basically the same as the cs1, just an updated look to it. i wish it didnt come with the stupid plastic sides...but oh well.

it definitely matches better than that CSM i had before.

I actually stopped in Best Buy at lunch today (looking for The Thing to no avail) and got to look/listen to a CS10 they had hooked up with some Polk Rti's. It's much smaller than the CS2! However, it seemed to sound pretty good. I started to pull off the grill but had a guy come over and ask if I wanted help, so I just left it. However, I like the "plastic" sides- looked to me like a piano/latex gloss overtop wood. Mine are very plain.

Also listened to the new Klipsch fronts they have out. As much as I want to, I just can't get into horns. Maybe it was the source material (dunno where the feed was coming from) but it just seemed to blare out everything together. I'm sure there are lots of people who love them. Maybe I just need a real demo instead of BB's Magnolia crap.

pic of my fronts. rears are just some Pioneer S-H252 bookshelf speakers my girlfriend had already. they are beefy enough for decent surrounds.

Just hooked up my Onkyo 805, Polk Monitor 50 fronts, Polk CS1 center...

Whoa baby...

I can't wait to go shopping for a sub and get some monitor 30's or 40's for surrounds.

Sigh... I'm never going to use my TV speakers again...

Thanks to all here for the help both recent and past... I'm a believer.

Any questions, my good doctor, and you know where to find us! You know what sub we would all recommend in a heartbeat! The difference is breathtaking.

Seriously considering it. Can get 50's from amazon for the same price as 40's from j&R (and $20 cheaper with my prime trial) 200 + tax (~$40) for the pair, delivered in two days... Trying to tell myself not to spend the cash but tomorrow's payday with 8 hrs OT in it... may not be able to resist the urge...

Um, call me crazy, but no - I don't know what you'd recommend I'd love to hear your suggestions, but the reason I was thinking 50's/40's versus 30's is the extra woofer to help make up for not having a sub. (though I know in reality I'll prob end up with a sub too...)

So Sub suggestions please?

Let's work with two scenarios (in case it makes a difference to you)
1) 50's all around or 50's/40's
2) 50's as fronts, 30's as surrounds

Discuss... don't get verklempt...

If you can get the 50s right now for cheaper than the 40s, do it. Saves on speaker stands....

This is the sub...

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=61245

I love my 30s for surrounds, but if I could get the 50s for not much more....why not. If you are planning on music then get 50s/40s, and if not 30s will be fine....

Default Polk Sub

I know Polk subs don't get much love in the forums, but I added a Polk PSW125 to my current set-up - CS-2 center, Monitor 70s up front, Monitor 50s on the sides, and Monitor 30s in back. I got it on eBay for $175.00 and about $40 shipping. My kid is watching the SDVD LOTR right now and the LFE track is shaking the house. I expect the neighbors to call the cops any minute now.

i have a psw12. it's an excellent sub, but i haven't really auditioned many other subs either. the psw10 or 12 match the monitor series perfectly.
