the comedy writing is so abysmal I am floored ABC renewed this, the show looks cheap to make.

Glad to see this happening, despite the lower ratings this series has been getting against NCIS:

CBS has picked up ‘Training Day’, ‘Bull’, ‘MacGyver’, ‘The Great Indoors’, Matt LeBlanc Comedy & Jason Katims Drama

CBS has given series orders to dramas Training Day, a sequel to the movie; the Dr. Phil-inspired Bull, starring NCIS‘ Michael Weatherly, Jason Katims’ Pure Genius (fka Bunker Hill) and MacGyver, a reboot of the classic series. On the comedy side, the network has picked up the Matt LeBlanc starrer, now titled Man with a Plan and workplace half-hour The Great Indoors starring Joel McHale. Both are multi-camera as is the newly picked up Kevin James comedy Kevin Can Wait, meaning that renewed Life In Pieces will be the only single-camera comedy series on CBS next season.

Rumor is that CBS may not be done with pickups, and there could be a possible nod to one of Joan Rater and Tony Phelan’s early favorites Doubt or Drew.

I hear MacGyver will undergo some retooling with all actors except star Lucas Till and co-star George Eads recast. The project faced numerous challenges, including writer and director changes. (the final pilot script was written by Paul Downs Colaizzo and Brett Mahoney, with David Von Ancken stepping in for James Wan to direct). Still, CBS brass continued to like the title, leading to the pickup, possibly for midseason.

Michael Weatherly will make a seamless transition, hanging up his NCIS badge in the finale next Tuesday night before attending the CBS upfront presentation as the star of Bull — playing a character inspired by Dr. Phil — a few hours later.

Training Day, from Warner Bros. TV, is the only new CBS series not owned or co-owned by the network. WBTV has been on a roll with its movie titles this season, landing series pickups for all — Training Day, Lethal Weapon at Fox and Frequency at the CW. Its current CBS series Rush Hour is not likely to come back.

Medical drama Pure Genius, from Universal TV and CBS TV Studios, emerged as a favorite after strong testing, with the network’s freshman medical drama Code Black also looking hopeful for renewal.

Like the Kevin James comedy, the Matt LeBlanc sitcom, written on spec by Jeff & Jackie Filgo, was fronted by a big star and backed by a big penalty, making it a favorite. Its table read was attended by CBS Corp. CEO Leslie Moonves.

Outside of the James and LeBlanc projects, The Great Indoors was the multi-camera pilot garnering the strongest buzz the last few weeks.

Here are details about CBS’ newly picked up series:

One thing interesting about this time of the season is that I always learn about shows that I've never ever heard of before. Galavant? The Mysteries of Laura? The Real O'Neals? I'm usually up to speed with a lot of entertainment just because of the amount of time I spend online but these shows (and often others) are ones I've somehow never heard of until reading this thread.

NBC has canceled Undateable after 3 seasons and Telenovela, Heartbeat, and Game of Silence after 1 season.

In a fairly surprising move Fox renewed Sleepy Hollow for a 4th season.

Who wants to put money that this is one & done or doesn't make it through a whole season???

Quote:
NBC has added another drama to its lineup for 2016-17: “Midnight, Texas,” a supernatural-tinged show based on novels by “True Blood” author Charlaine Harris.

The show is about a small town in Texas where the real world bumps up against a host of otherworldly phenomena. The cast includes Arielle Kebbel, Peter Mensah, Jason Lewis, Shannon Lorance and Francois Arnaud.

Monica Owuso-Breen (“Agents of SHIELD,” “Fringe”) adapted Harris’ book series and is executive producing.

Midnight, Texas” joins a crop of seven other new shows — four dramas and three comedies — on NBC’s 2016-17 schedule.

It seems like people that didn't like True Blood (myself included) won't watch the show, whereas people that liked True Blood are bound to be disappointed because it will seem so watered down on network TV.

Good news about Sleepy Hollow. It along with Grimm are the only reason I have for owning a TV other than BDs.

What about A&E's Damien? I need a second season.
And what about NBC's Cruel Intentions? How long they'll take to let us know if they will pick up the pilot or not? Actually, how long it takes to edit the episode and show it to the chairman, etc? The shoot ended April 1th.

I really hope they give Grandfathered a good final, I really like the show and Christina Milian actually was really good in it.

Don't know about Damien as network shows are the ones preparing for next weeks upfront's!

As for Cruel Intentions there should be some news in the next several hours or days.
