Arrow Halloween (2018)

Quote:
John Carpenter is returning to the Halloween series, in a new collaboration with Jason Blum...

Now this is a surprise. Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Productions company are to put together a new Halloween movie – and they’re bringing John Carpenter back to the series.

Carpenter, who, of course, was responsible for the first Halloween movie back in 1978, will be returning to the series as executive producer. In the official press announcement, he’s quoted as saying that “38 years after the original Halloween I’m going to help to try to make the 10th sequel the scariest of them all”.

Blumhouse Productions is co-funding the new movie along with Miramax, and the plan is to have the new movie ready for Halloween 2017. This has presumably ends Rob Zombie’s involvement in the Halloween series, having directed the last two movies in the series.

As for who’s going to direct this new Halloween movie, that’s not yet clear (it's not Carpenter, not least because he's heading off on a music tour). But we’ll keep you posted as we hear more…

Carpenter says "10th sequel," while the press release specifically said "reboot," so it's unclear if this is a true reboot (starting over) or a return to the old continuity and just a "revamp."

Either way, I don't care. I was looking forward to Halloween Returns, so I'm looking forward to this even more. With Carpenter and especially Blum on board, they'll hopefully be able to attract a good talent to direct. Especially glad to hear the movie is aiming for Halloween 2017.

Halloween is the best horror franchise IMO, I'll be glad to have it back.

USA Halloween (John Carpenter Returns)

Couldn't be more thrilled with John returning to the franchise as producer, hopefully they lock him in to score the film too. Very excited to hear him say that this next entry will return to its low-budget roots as "that's how it should be." October 2017 should be very interesting and satisfying for us horror fans given the suggested release date for the next Voorhees film launching 10/13/2017 and presumably 2 weeks later on 10/27/2017 is when we'll see little Mikey Myers return to the big screen. 😛

He didn't score his Masters of Horror movies and The Ward, so don't get your hopes up. Executive producer usually means: sit back in your big chair and watch the money come in, because your name is attached to the movie.

Good to hear Carpenter is attached to this. Hoping for a sequel and not another reboot.

Happy we are getting another movie but i hope Carpenter will have some kind of impact and not just sit back.

I have to agree with P-Rock here. Roping in Carpenter seems like a purely calculated move to lend some credibility to an ailing franchise, and he probably won't have much to do with it other than putting his name on it and making a few suggestions here and there.

It's a sweet pay day for him I'm sure.

Everyone and anyone who enjoys the Halloween series should be excited about this. After the awful Resurrection and the two horrible Zombie movies, this is a step in the right direction to breathe some life back into this franchise. Shit, I would be ecstatic if they let him direct it (wishful thinking, I know).

As John Carpenter is going to be an Executive Producer, there's bound to be a decent director that will end up being appointed.

I'm surprised that they are making a sequel to the original series, instead of another remake of the original.

Carpenter is just hoping to cash a bigger cheque than usual with this one, that is all. I bet the guy couldn't care less how the movie turns out.

Carpenter only cares about the moneys these days.

Not sure how I should feel for this news. I mean, it can't be as bad as Resurrection. But Blumhouse's involvement concerns me, Halloween is more than just jump scares and loud sounds.

Have you heard his two recent albums? They're pretty great. And he's got a live band touring with him.

Great news. Bring it on. I'm hopeful. So what.

Everyone complains the series went really downhill and the creator of the whole thing returns and they're all whining. Hilarious. The internet is the funniest place on earth.

Yeah, no kidding. This is great news!

Blumhouse may not always deliver the most subtle horror, but they do care about the genre, unlike say Paramount with Friday the 13th. I'm sure they'll do their best to deliver a quality film, as they are fans themselves.

As for Carpenter, yes, for a while there he seemed to have given up, and lost any motivation in doing anything besides smoking and playing video games, but I think with his last two albums and now his live tour, he has been reinvigorated, and seems to be passionate again about creating new projects. From the press release he talks about the issues with Zombie's film and how important it is to return the franchise to a simpler film about a force of evil, not a character with a bad upbringing. This is great news alone!

They also talked about getting a respected director with several films under his belt, so they aren't just going to throw some rookie music director on this to save money.

Yes, the franchise has been through hell and back, but I'd say as of now, all the pieces are in order for this franchise to get back on track, and hopefully we'll be able to get excited about a Halloween film again!

Pretty much.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm not all that excited since it will most likely be another Myers Halloween film. As if we haven't had enough of those.

I would only be excited for this if it was the start of that idea Carpenter originally had to make the Halloween films an anthology of sorts.
