How am I losing because I want a mix of digital and disc?

Some of you guys focus so much on the video quality that you are losing the whole idea of watching movies in the first place. The reason anyone watches movies is to be entertained and be involved in a story for a couple of hours. If you spend the entire time worrying about video quality, you can't get lost in the story.

Digital streaming 10 feet away on my couch looks great enough to me. For the films I love, I have the option of disc.

Why does this make me someone who doesn't care about movies?

I don't think there is a blanket statement to be made from this thread. If there is one, it's that we're all movie fans and we're all different with various lifestyles.

Some of us are actively opposed to digital. Some are over physical completely. Some aren't over their physical collection, but they've stopped adding to it and have gone digital for new releases. Some don't collect either anymore and just use subscription services. People are different. A lot of us see this as a soapbox opportunity or a platform for debate, but really that's because we're all passionate about movies. Otherwise we wouldn't be posting here.

It's not sad times unless you choose to focus solely on the negative. Obviously you love movies too, though, or you wouldn't be so worked up about it. It isn't the end of physical. Worry not. Let's all just share our love of movies. Thank you.

Because many of these Blu Ray's are restorations which have been painstakingly done by whole teams of people and those who care about the original look of the film and bring it back to life.
Streaming will reverse most of that!.

This debate reminds me why I sold all of my 3D movies.

I sold them because:
  1. 3D Sucks
  2. I was focusing too much on the 3D effect and not the story
  3. 3D Sucks
I got rid of all of them for that reason. I want to be pulled into the story. It's not always about video quality or sound quality. For some of us, it's all about watching movies in whatever way we want.

You want to solve this video quality/streaming/renting debate?

Make movies downloadable like PC games are with Steam and EA Origins. I've downloaded games in the 50Gb range. Someone make an ability to download the entire bluray and then everyone's whining about digital goes away.

Then people will whine about hard drive space. Heh

I hardly ever watch 3D at home or in theaters these days, but whenever I do, I'm reminded how great it looks to me. It's funny how I mostly just appreciate it in the moment. There's only maybe a dozen "3D Wow" moments that stick out in my memory across all the 3D movies I've seen, but there's an overall effect throughout that I like. I could live without it, though. It's just a nice bonus. One more thing. It does force us to give a movie our undivided attention while wearing 3D glasses at home, so that does help keep us immersed. That part's cool too.

But that just brings us back to highlighting how everyone is different, which is pretty cool. Good things can happen when people have different viewpoints/sensibilities.

I find it hard not to focus on the negative, when if we go the way of Digital we will loose the choice or freedom to watch a movie as intended.
I kind of use this a lot, LCD has for want of a better word crap PQ compared to PDP and yet apart from recent and still maybe not as good PQ of OLED that is what we were left with, simply because the masses bought into thinner TV's that had Smart (digital) functionality.

PS
Not trying to be totally against Digital. Just these are the facts as they stand at the minute...........and the only argument from the Digital guys has been about space and able to watch on the move...........nothing to do with the quality of the picture they are viewing, or the package they are receiving?

How many games do you have again? Digitally, I have well over 600 movies, so that might take up a bit of space.

Do you guys prefer UV or iTunes?
I sold most of my blu-ray collection recently due to space issues. I just don't have the space to store hundreds of blu-rays with their cases, I tried the binder route, and I found storing most of them in binders and getting rid of the cases unacceptable as part of blu-ray collecting is the packaging and taking pride in displaying blu-rays with their cases on the shelf.

I prefer iTunes over UV but since UV is how I started out my digital movie collection and most of my digital movie collection is on Vudu I'm sticking with UV for now. Also most codes are UV, so I can build a digital movie collection cheaper through UV than iTunes. Now if I started over again with digital, I would pick iTunes. I like how you can download to the PC and still have HD in all movies you bought in HD in iTunes. My internet sometimes cuts out for about 3 minutes on the weekends for some reason and it's annoying when I'm streaming a movie through Vudu and all of a sudden the movie stops streaming I get a message saying network unavailable. Sometimes when I stream through Vudu I only get 3 bars HDX even though I'm on a 45 Mb connection plan through my ISP. However most of my digital movie collection is UV and more codes are in UV format than iTunes so it would be cheaper for me just to stay with UV.

You can download UV movies to your hard drive as well, it's just a bit different than iTunes.

This was in the mid '50's, at out local Cinema, they were different Black&White Action Movies, those were in there but also others that are now just shown as Full Length Movies. So then you can watch a Full Length Movie then just parts of others that you have seen before. When you watch a Movie the first time then go from start to finish, if your watching it the 10th time then watching parts are okay.

It's much more restrictive than iTunes, since the DRM ties the files to the specific computer or device that you downloaded them to. You cannot move them to another device, back them up, or put them on a server and stream them on your local network. The UV "common file format" was supposed to support this, but never materialized.

Many of my movies are not available in HDX if downloaded to my PC. Plus I don't want to watching movies at my PC and I don't want to buy a PS3 just for Vudu (you can download your Vudu movies to the PS3).
