A Mallrats TV show hmm, malls are going the way of drive in movies. Are malls even relevant to kids these days?

I live close to a reasonably big mall and it's still filled with kids. However, I don't know if they are regular hang out spots like I used them as in the 90s. Back then it was common to see a bunch of kids my age spend nearly an entire weekend in the mall's arcade playing video games and also hanging out in the record, video game, and hat stores. I used to go so often to all of said stores in the mall as a kid that I knew many of the employees by name and used to regularly strike up conversations with them. But today's much different as younger folks are living in a fast paced social media bubble. I can't imagine younger guys in particular being "mallrats" with the decline of arcades and record stores to occupy their time and interests.

No. At least, not like it used to be. Back in the 80s and 90s (as Mallrats actually showed) there were multiple malls in a city/town that were in short driving distance from each other. Nowadays there will be one crowded mall and several ghost towns.

I think it could be interesting, especially if the show focuses on how malls are fading out and can even become crime-ridden. This show could be good if it's on Netflix/Showtime/HBO. If it ends up on Comedy Central, TBS, MTV, or other basic cable channels, it'll probably die a slow death over like 2-3 seasons. If they pitch this to network television, it's going to be canceled before it even gets off its feet.

From what I've read, the plot of the sequel was planned to be centered around this fact.
