Warner need to get the oceans trilogy out, the last had a 4k di and I think the rest had 4k masters

And for these older DI movies that were done way before HDR became a consideration, do they go back to some archived ungraded source, or are they just trying to artificially punch it up from the already compressed/graded SDR master? I assume and hope it's the former, but we've already seen many examples of things that should have been archived but weren't (the scan of Baraka for example.) |

Some studios follow through with a complete neg cut and/or archival film-out (of both negative and YCM separations) from the final digital master, Penton posted an excellent piece a ways back about what Warners did for Ocean's 13. But I've no facts to give you as to what percentage of DI finishes actually receive such treatment; as you infer in your second paragraph, it's all about what was actually archived at the time.

I hope they are releasing a 4k restored Mad Max Trilogy set soon on UHD and BD.
I can't stand the wrong colors of MM 1 and 2. I hope they finally correct them (all three films looked pretty much the same originally, not as pale as the current BDs of 1 and 2, more brownish, reddish and yellowish like Part 3 and the DVD of Road Warrior). |
