I'm inclined to give older works of cinema a pass, namely Apocalypse Now, The Rules of the Game, Walkabout, Wake in Fright, and even Cannibal Holocaust, because I'm cognizant that those are films of their time and era. I still don't enjoy the particular scenes in question, though. I will say that the scenes accentuate the filmmakers' point that humans, in general, are savages. The point gets across time and time again in other scenes, though. |

Come to think of it, one of my most beloved horror films, the original 1980 version of Friday the 13th, has a scene with a real snake being killed. The end result is a great moment where the camera lingers...just...a...little...too...long...on one character who is holding a machete. It's a pretty neat attempt at misdirection. |

I just realized, while posting in the Code Red thread a few minutes ago, that the 1976 film, Naked Massacre, is probably more disturbing to me than even Cannibal Holocaust, and that it even rivals Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom.
Naked Massacre (Die Hinrichtung) is not available on Blu-ray, but it can be found on one of the Mill Creek 50-Movie DVD sets. The movie tells the story of a Vietnam vet who terrorizes and kills a bunch of nurses at a boarding house in Belfast. It's based on the real life Richard Speck murders, which also inspired a pivotal sequence in the Charles Bronson movie, 10 to Midnight. There's something truly chilling about the matter-of-fact casual way that the murders in Naked Massacre are depicted, and it really got under my skin. Argh... I dunno. I think that I'm going to go watch an animated Disney Blu-ray now or something. |

![]() Dude, you should know that Germany has in index, and certain films are not available on Amazon.de due to their extreme content? The XT edition is readily available from other vendors, and the metalpak can be had for less than 20 euros not including postage. This is a masterpiece and people need to know that there is readily available version that is noticeable better than the Grindhouse version. |

EXACTLY, based on the caps alone it isn't just a "tiny" difference... and the fact that it's the same master, means Grindhouse BOTCHED it.

So after reading all the specs and differences between the Grindhouse and Shameless versions - the only selling point for me (aside from the price) between the two is the keen looking yellow case and the original, infamous Nasty cover. The yellow case is an easy enough fix, but has there ever been a fan version put together for the american release?

Since the US Bluray doesn't have Italian audio, is it worth importing the Italian release? Which sounds better?

I never bother with Italian audio for most Italian movies. They were post dubbed anyway into both English and Italian as well as other languages. You'll find from this era most of the main actors were speaking in English even if they never did bother much with lip sync.

Italian movies (especially exploitation) were never filmed with sound, always dubbed in during post, Fred Williamson described their cameras as sounding like "washing machines" when filming.

Oh that I am aware of gentlemen, I was more curious to the fact if the Italian audio has any special interesting quirks or the like to make it worth importing.
