My PS3 left me very dissatisfied. Horrible software quality. Installations. Games freezing left + right. No backward compatibility. And there were so many bad games, and I own around maybe 150 PS3 games. And then there also were all those region-specific issues despite Sony calling it region free. Even the PSN shop is sluggish and simply broken. And they managed to make this even worse this generation with for example paid multiplayer and other stupid and silly things.
I mean I just bought Syberia 1+2 "HD" collection for PS3 and what do you know - performance is horrible despite a longer installation and they even managed to make one trophy not work. In case you don't know what Syberia is about, it's linear adventure games. That should be easy to test. Tried to contact the company, so that they at least tell me if there is some workaround to get it - no reply. No patch. No nothing. Although the disc version was even released quite a bit after the original digital releases and my research showed that the digital versions already had this problem. I really can't believe it.
I think it's absolutely insane that Sony forces developers to add trophies to every single game, but doesn't give a shit in case they don't work. Or in case the game itself already doesn't work. It's baffling. And it seems they also charge quite a hefty price for every single patch. On Wii U developers are free to patch games. They don't have to pay a single dime to Nintendo. Oh and yes, Nintendo software alone most of the time doesn't require a single patch. That's how it should work. That's what I'm used to. That's what I consider a console. Disc in -> play. No disc in -> wait for patches to download -> wait for installation -> and now maybe play in case you are lucky.
There is no way that I will buy another Sony console ever again unless they change everything and they won't. And Microsoft well they are Microsoft. No way that I'm buying anything from them. I have to use their crap at work already. And what did they just announce? Every single XB1 game will work on PC. So there is not even a reason to buy their "consoles". Just use a PC. You get installations, but you would also get those on the "console".
I really hope NX uses carts and doesn't start with all of this crap as well. Cart in -> play. Sure, there would be quite a lot of patches for AAA-budget 3rd parties, but at least all the other crap wouldn't be there. And Wii U is quite nicely designed for patches + regular game downloads. Not only does it download while you play games, but you can even play multiplayer games and it will keep on downloading. It will lower the download speed in the latter case. That's what I would call well designed. No idea what the other "consoles" are doing. PS3 doesn't let you download patches in the background. And it also disables downloads when you play games.
