I understand the feeling actually, DaD started a huge storm of hate on the Imdb forums back in the days of its release

For reference, I am also a huge Bond fan, the very first two VHS my dad brought home when I was 8 or 9 were Star Wars and .. Dr No

Since then, I have seen every single one of them, and have appreciated each Bond (well, Dalton a bit less I have to admit) for what they brought to the Franchise. I am with you on Brosnan, he is in fact my favorite Bond still, even though the one I really despise is The World Is Not Enough (I cannot say enough how retarded it was to put Denise Richards as a Nuclear scientist, but I digress).
I guess DaD was all I expected from it, as I saw several interviews where they stated the goal of the movie being a patchwork of Bond moments (that you find clicheed). I guess I do not truly consider DaD as a "pure" Bond, more of a nostalgia 2h flick.

But quite Frankly, if DaD deserves a 1, then ... Diamonds are Forever, The Man with the Golden Gun and A View To a Kill deserve ... what ? 0.5 ?

/salute
What can I say? You and me are in the same page. Believe me when I say that I am a BIG Bond fan, and I want every single movie in BD,. Never get tired of watching them. A View to a Kill is the worst one followed by The Man With The Golden Gun. I can respect Ben saying that he has to be honest, but my question is...how many other movies has he given 1 star? I have seen all kinds of DUDS receiving 3 or more stars...right here.

I guess no one was listening when I said you can get VOL 1 and VOL 2 at GAMECRAZY for $34.99, but I guess everyone has their own plan for getting blu ray box sets for a seriously cheap price. Just trying to help for those who want the box set over the seperate blu's

Dr. No, yes...however, big time slip in Die Another Day.. Just look at the review section..total cinematic frauds like Eraser...3 stars??? Not very credible giving Die Another Day 1 star..First movie I have ever seen any reviewer here give one star (maybe the Lindsley Lohan movie?) Anyways, not a good deal, and it detracts from the credibility of the review. Speed Racer got 4 stars from Ben and Miami Vice 4.5...Die another Day..only 1 little small star.

I didn't review Eraser and I gave DaD 2 stars. Besides, I'm grading DaD against other Bond movies and not anything else.

Just got through watching Dr. No and Die Another Day. Dr. No looked pretty amazing (very 3D looking at times), especially for an older film. Die Another Day looked and sounded great. I really surprised by the sound in that one and loved the opening with the rumble from the wave. Several other demo type scenes in the movie, especially so sound-wise. Still don't get why people don't like that one. I thought it was very entertaining. Anyway, one thing that is pretty funny is watching the credits. The older movies take like 10 seconds to get through the credits. Newer ones, 10-15 minutes.

Despite it's flaws, I don't mind DAD...I certainly find it far more tolerable than the God-awful, melodramatic embarrassment that is The World is Not Enough.

I might get Die anothe day. it's $20 at target plus you get the $10.50 for quantum of solace so I see as if I only payed $10 for die another day.

Netflixed DAD and only had time to scan a few scenes. I guess i'm suprised how grainy the picture is and wow, they really did a lot of digital manipulation of the picture to desaturate the colors.

I was always a fan of the audio mix even with the DD EX and the DTS-ES mixes on the DVD. Just scanning around the big action scenes, it does sound impressive. I do have to admit i'm surpised given the DVD'S ES mix that they didn't go 6.1 for this track.

As for the conversation about the film DAD, I can watch the film, but it's painful after Casino Royale cause it's so bad. By far the worst of the Brosnan films, made even sadder cause the way the film began it could have been the best Bond film with him imprisioned. I'm convinced had they put more effort into the actual story, instead of being crafty and trying to reference the 19 films before it, that it would have been a much better movie.

By the time it goes through the motions of referencing prior films, makes the film you went to see irrelevant.

I also have to say, I don't get the hate on THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH? While I admit outside the opening boat race, the action was weak, however I found the story pretty compelling and for once had a woman as the villian.

Had they not had Denise Richards in it, had the potential for being an awesome movie!!!

I pretty much agree with everything you say here, except I'm at the point where I don't even want to watch DAD ever again. I actually liked it in the theater, but each time I watched it again it got progressively worse for me. Too bad, it started out so good too.

I'm with you here too. Aside from the final scene in the sub which I find overly long and boring, TWINE has gotten better for me on subsequent viewings since I saw it in the theater. Originally I was indifferent to it, but there is a lot I like about it.

Ben, thanks for the explanation on your rating of DAD. Seeing how passionate you are for the Bond franchise, your explanation puts the rating in context.

Do people think the Blu Rays are worth the upgrade from the UE DVDs?

Moonraker is nowhere's near as bad as Die Another Day. In fact, I don't think any of the first 16 (the Broccoli/Maibaum films, if you will) are worse than Brosnan's final two. A shame since his first two had promise.

The damage Denise Richards does is just too great for the film to recover. Her casting is perhaps the biggest practical joke ever played on a movie audience, and I was not amused.

I think you just summed up the reason for all the TWINE hating. Denise Richard plays a nuclear physicist. That's like Paris Hilton playing the Flying Nun. Amy Winehouse playing a member of temperance movement.
