okay im following the instructions to download the firmware
and it says that the file is 54,512,128 bytes.
however, when i download the file, it says the file is 54, 829, 864 bytes....

is this a problem?

I had the same problem with the bytes not matching but the firmware update worked. I do not think that is your issue. Make sure you burn the image onto the disk and make sure it is a new disk not a re-writable disk.

There's a big thread on AVS about this. A few of the Bonds are having playback issues on certain standalone units. From reading the thread, I haven't seen an issue reported with the PS3 or the Panasonic BD30.

Why don't they test these discs on more than just the PS3?

Yes, that's a problem. What you need to do is an ISO burn of the file. Not all burner programs can do ISO burns though. If yours can't, download CDBurnerXP, and use that to make an ISO burn of the file.
