Aniplex easily releases Blu-rays and DVDs at the highest prices. FUNimation normally prices 13 episode sets for about $30 and eventually get price drops. Viz Media basically does the same thing. The only other company that prices sets higher than that is Sentai Filmworks, at $40. Which is still reasonable, it may sound expensive to some but when you compare it to a new season of Game of Thrones on release date it costs just as much. But with Aniplex they charge almost the same as Japanese prices. Here is how much Blu-rays by them cost.
Sword Art Online with 7 episodes $90 Blue Exorcist episodes 1-12 $140 Kill la Kill 4 episodes $60 Bakemonogatari all 15 episodes $120 Gurren Lagann limited edition with like 25 episodes $700 And the list goes on and on. I'm sure it's the Japanese Aniplex telling the American Aniplex to charge these prices, but they treat anime like it's still a premium when it's not, I mean look at shows like Attack on Titan and Sword Art Online (which they own) that are EXTREMELY popular here. They don't understand that America and Japan have completely different economies. I'm lucky because the only show they have that I'd like to buy is Blue Exorcist, but I won't pay that much. Anyway do you agree with me on this? |
