Sorry, it seemed like you were denigrating my suggestion that the shelves were efficient for what the OP was looking for, I sensed a condescending tone to your comment, but apologies if I misread it.

I'd love some of those dvd/blu units from IKEA

I too am in the market for another storage solution. I've got shit in piles everywhere. I quite like the Rimu classic looking bookcases too. They're sturdy, reasonably cheap (got mine for $400) and look great filled with trashy blu rays

I have one of those eBay units Cev and Coen are referring too, and even with the shorter shelf pieces, and lightness of blu-rays and cases, there is still definite signs in bowing. Better timber would solve that problem.

Still a decent option though. My space is limited, so it fits the bill perfectly, and at under $150 delivered, I can't complain.

Holds 504 standard 14mm blu-ray cases (incl Steelbooks)

I kind of wish we had the thinner cases here in Aus. I just don't see any reason to have the thicker ones and waste space.

I understand why it's there, but I really don't like the panel that sticks out at the bottom. It's like it's just asking for your toe to be stubbed on it.

I use a pair of the AmazonBasic 400 slot binders. I stand them up straight so there's the least bit of weight pushing against the discs all around. Seems to work well since I can still take a disc out and play it from anywhere in the page. Otherwise I tossed my cases into boxes and stored them.

If you have a power saw you can cut a portion of the stand off, but the feet is attached and you need it for leverage and stability from the weight.

Indeed. The US gets slimmer 11mm cases with 3 discs, and most of their single and double disc releases are 7mm or 11mm, yet we still get 14mm single disc releases.

It's why I've been switching mine out for slimmer cases, and consolidating some complete TV series into better options.

It looks worse in the photo than it is. If you stub your toe on it, it'll be after you've smashed into it with your shoulder ... or your rolling around on the ground. It's just not possible.

Seems you post questions problems about OLED everyday

I tried to PM but not allow to. So, this post.

I just noticed that you have over 5,000 Blus and DVDs. Where do you keep that many? I have about 1,200 and running out of room.

Going to have to rethink my storage.

One word: nipples

with adhesive. They turn a single case (that you already have) into a double case. Double the flavor double the fun. Can double storage space for Blus by having double the discs in a case. (I use a custom centering tool I made from 3" CD-Rs to center the nipples on the opposite case side so the hubs rest on top of each other on the case when closed)

or... slim 5mm double disc DVD cases. Can sextuple storage space by having 6 DVDs in the space of a single DVD case (15mm).

What about covers you say? Just fold them flat and slip them in between the cases on the shelf or a drawer and the protruding spines serve as indexing cards.

Yes. When he sees the answer I will move it.

But to do topicality.. OLED seems to be the best image display right now.

Don't know if you read his whole post, but he stores the spindle on its side.

What a great thread this is!

When I hit over 1,000 DVD's years ago and was running out of shelves I went with an apothecary style cabinet and sleeves. Many years later everything is, thankfully, still in perfect condition.

Cabinet similar to this...

Sleeves I use...

My Blu's so far I store in their cases (only have a few hundred).

Nice cabinet, but I think it needs to be taller. You can pack in a lot more movies with taller shelf space.

I've toyed with the idea of ditching the cases and storing my blu's in sleeves or wallets. Can never bring myself to do it. It's too convenient to just pull a movie off the shelf and watch it. I've accepted the fact that I'll always store my movie on shelves and if I run out of shelf space, I'll just have buy more shelves.
