I can't believe they went with the classic video nasty artwork as the MAIN artwork, haha.

It should have double-sided art. I assume they're just not finished with it and that's why Arrow didn't announce it, but it is listed in the item specs.

The steelbook will just have the original video nasty art though.

Lower priced is obviously the standard clear Amaray case release, correct?

Whoever created the artwork for this film's past video releases committed one of the worst cases of false advertising I've ever seen. It suggests a gory slasher flick and its as far away from one as you can get. I'll grab Arrow's upcoming release if only to give the film a second chance but, yeah, I wasn't into it the first time. Never really "got" Ferrara's films to begin with.

That artwork is iconic in the UK.
It was that which appeared in full page ads in video mags in 1982 and rather than the films it was that and the ads for 2 others that lit the fuse that became the video nasties scandal.
Pre 84 video didn't get censored in the UK so distributors capitalised on it by promising the most violent and salacious content possible - stuff that wouldn't be allowed at cinemas so making it as sleazy as possible was the aim and I think more than any other it was the Driller Killer cover that succeeded best.
Unfortunately it all backfired and the authorities were able to use the cover as an example of the types of films that were being sold even though , as you point out, it's not really a true representation of the film as a whole but for sheer marketability I don't think that image has been bettered.
It did its job which was to get people to rent it.
Like so many others I watched and thought what is this shit?

How can they leave off that original commentary, it's legendary!
I'd bet Abel might a bit ashamed of it, and I can't much blame him if that's the case, but it's out there on most if not all of the dvds.

Just watched the trailer. Looks interesting and I really like that cover art. Might have to add it to the blind buy list. This Fall is going to be crazy with all these releases coming out.

I'll be leaving a Steelbook for another of you gents, but I am hopeful that I can wait until the new year to snag the standard edition and still get a booklet. The movie is interesting for it's cultural significance but otherwise is largely forgettable. I have to own it of course, but not right away thankfully.

So I guess this means I have to keep the DVD with Early Short Films of Abel Ferrara on it. Too bad they aren't included with these Blu Rays.

The review disc has arrived! No time to for a proper look right now, but here's a menu shot and a grab from the 1.33:1 presentation of the Theatrical Version of the film (both it and the Pre-Release Version are available to view in a choice of 1.33:1 or 1.85:1 aspect ratios).

Yeah, if you're not in the UK, the VAT doesn't get added to your purchase. I just preordered the disc yesterday and it wound up running me 18 and 20 - just about 23 bucks US.
