Default Sony's going to try and earn it! Yeah right!

http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/date/07032007/index.html#677065

According to an interview by PSM with SCEA president Jack Tretton, Money does not equal to exclusive titles. He said:
Quote:
"We have a very different approach to exclusives than some of our competitors. We don’t buy exclusivity. We don’t fund development. We don’t, for lack of a better term, bribe somebody to only do a game on our platform. We earn it."
I get what there saying but really in today’s world you cant not just sit back and hope video game developers just say "Your right Sony you do deserve this game not the 360" It wont happen Sony need to start playing the same game as Microsoft before we see MGS4 or FF on the junk box. Developers don’t care they go after the $$$ and Sony needs to understand that and start handing out blank checks and get some of there exclusive games back.
What’s the saying some times the right thing to do isn’t always the right (or best) thing to do, its great that Sony isn’t playing dirty and I think we all can respect that but we also don’t want to wait for 2 years for Sony to prove them selves.

I agree. Sony needs to get on this. For every exclusive they lose, its another customer. Or million of them...

Before M$ came along companies earned exclusive games! Sony doesn't have to play the game that M$ is playing just for bragging rights. Microsoft has proven to be an immoral company when it comes to competition in any media related market. I agree that Sony should offer game developers incentives for certain games but money is not the answer !!!!

I do agree. MS started this whold buying exclusives and its nasty but thats the way it is. Sony are a very strong willed company and tend to hold there ground. I respect them for this but this is the next gen. Things change. Sony can see its not working. Unless they hold on a while longer were gonna keep loseing exclusives. And its not just the PS3 loosing them, its everyone thats owns one.
I know why sony are standing there ground. They have the better console and are waiting for devs to realise this. Some have already, like the Devs at Haze and Konami. And obviously Sony devs know how good the system is. But most Devs will follow the money. Gameing development has changed. It used to be about the better game. Now its all about the money.
Sony need to pay or we will keep loosing EX's.

SONY does do this. He's just trying to make them look better. You know damn well SONY has handed out big money to franchises in the past.

Nintendo used to have the BEST setup when their systems were still cartridge-based. They would require game developers to buy blank cartridges through them, thus guaranteeing that regardless of how well the game did, Nintendo still made money on the front-end.

But just like Sega, Nintendo also owned, co-owned, or partnered with several of the developers, or licensed their own characters for game development.

Microsoft does the same thing. They OWN Bungie, and co-own a lot of the development houses who produce for the Xbox 360, thus guaranteeing exclusives.

I'm not saying Sony needs to go out and buy a game developer (they already have some, but they're mediocre). Companies like Bandai, Konami, Midway, Square, EA, etc. will continue to develop for the PS. But when you think about it, none of those companies are doing anything INNOVATIVE.

Sony's problem is that it is SO EASY to port games around consoles these days that exclusives are getting rarer--and it makes sense to do simultaneous development. I thought Assassin's Creed would be the big PS3 title this fall, but the port to X360 cost the developer practically nothing, and they're most likely guaranteed to sell more X360 copies than PS3.

It's to bad that programmers and developers just don't step up to the task of designing games for the PS3 for the sole purpose of design challenge. The PS3 is the most difficult console to program for and that terrifies them. Plus the look at it as being less profitable to design for the PS3. Once the larger companies figure out programming for the PS3 and everyone is caught up with the PS3, everyone is going to jump on the programming bandwagon. Those slack and idle *****es

I remeber a person saying ''This generation, the only true exclusive games come from the the platform makers themslef''

So basically the only exclusives are going have come from sony and microsoft, everyone else will be going muiltiplatform.

Not worried anyway, sony have great game developers.

It has nothing to do with the developers being lazy, they aren't or we wouldn't see all of these great games coming out. Its all about money in the end and if they aren't guaranteed profit from a system they aren't going to take a risk.

you bet money is not the answer to some yes it is but for me it is not...with offering "incentives" i 100% agree with also. now thinks to Microsoft some developers will take the easy way out and just be for the highest bidder. which is of course is almost always going to be Microsoft.now i cannot blame Microsoft but i can most defiantly disagree with the method. SONY as a hardware company has a massive cost in overhead. something of which Microsoft does not have "yet". throwing around ($50 million reported for just 2 down loadable content for a single game does not bode well for any real competition if you can just buy your way to the finish line.

I can. Both XBoxes have combined for a net operating loss over $5.5 billion. They care more about forcing XBox on the industry than serving their stockholders. Consoles generally lose money on units, and make it on games; losing money on games shoots down the main source of income. Buying up games is not a sustainable winning strategy, especially given Japan's natural bias. Even now, they haven't exactly set up a dominant console like the first 2 PlayStations were in their days. Come to think of it, the PS2 is still on top saleswise.
