Whoa.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/...sex-abuse-1976

Quote:
Insurer alleges child told Joe Paterno of Jerry Sandusky sex abuse in 1976

A judge says insurers in litigation with Penn State claim a boy told coach Joe Paterno in 1976 that he had been molested by convicted former Nittany Lions assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky, Pennlive.com reported Thursday.

The order by Philadelphia Judge Gary Glazer also cites separate reports in 1987 and 1988 of other unnamed assistant football coaches allegedly witnessing "inappropriate contact between Sandusky and unidentified children."

"An allegation now about an alleged event 40 years ago, as represented by a single line in a court document regarding an insurance issue, with no corroborating evidence, does not change the facts," the Paterno family said in a statement given to Pennlive.com. "Joe Paterno did not, at any time, cover up conduct by Jerry Sandusky."

Pennlive.com's review of the case file, which remains under seal, found that all the alleged incidents are described in victims' depositions given as part of the still-active insurance coverage case for Sandusky-related claims.

I think Paterno knew a lot more than he claimed but I'm going to need to see some actual proof he knew that far back, not just an unconfirmed line with no evidence backing it up.

Not good news for Alabama:

Quote:
Alabama offensive tackle Cam Robinson, one of college football's top players, was arrested early Tuesday morning.

Robinson was booked into Ouachita Correctional Center in his hometown of Monroe, Louisiana, on a felony charge of illegal possession of stolen firearms and a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He was also charged with illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of narcotics.
Robinson is widely considered the top offensive lineman eligible for the 2017 draft. It will be interesting to see how Nick Saban and Alabama handle this.

Sounds like Art Briles is getting fired today by Baylor for his response (or lack thereof) to numerous sexual assaults and other actions by players. Massive loss. The school was an absolute joke before Briles came.

He's a great coach, but this is going to taint him forever now.

Yeah, he was widely considered a top-10 pick next year. And he got busted in Louisiana too. That's one of the worst places to get arrested. They love packing their prisons. Looks like some of these charges carry mandatory minimums too. He better have some good lawyers.

Alabama tackle Cam Robinson won't be prosecuted on the felony charge of illegal possession of stolen firearms and a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled dangerous substance he was charged with last month. It appears the search of the vehicle Robinson was in may not have been legal.

That sounds rather fishy to me.

This is astounding. The DA basically said he's not prosecuting them because these are Alabama football players. Bonus points for the DA having the name Jerry Jones.

Quote:
"I want to emphasize once again that the main reason I'm doing this is that I refuse to ruin the lives of two young men who have spent their adolescence and teenage years, working and sweating, while we were all in the air conditioning," district attorney Jerry Jones told KNOE-TV.

I'm sure his next campaign will be funded by Alabama.

I remember thinking Haden was one of the good guys at one time. These latest allegations are ugly though.

http://deadspin.com/report-usc-ad-pa...tio-1782297959

Quote:
Report: USC AD Pat Haden Funneled Scholarship Foundation Money To Himself, Trojan Athletics

Under Haden’s leadership as board chairman, however, the $25-million foundation became a lucrative source of income for him and two of his family members — even as its scholarship spending plunged to a three-decade low and the size of its endowment stagnated, a Times investigation has found.

Haden, his daughter and sister-in-law together collected about $2.4 million from the foundation for part-time roles involving as little as one hour of work per week, according to the foundation’s federal tax returns for 1999 to 2014, the most recent year available.

Half of that, about $1.2 million, went to Haden. His annual board fees have been as high as $84,000; the foundation paid him $72,725 in 2014.

ESPN is launching an ACC Network by 2019. It's going to be interesting to see how successful this is. The Big Ten and SEC Networks have done great because those leagues have a huge national following, but the Pac-12 Network has largely flopped. Part of the reason for the Pac-12 Network's struggles may be that they didn't partner with another network, whereas the Big Ten partnered with Fox and the SEC partnered with ESPN, and having a partner like Fox and ESPN has made getting distribution easier. Still, the ACC doesn't have a huge national following and I could see a lot of cable/satellite operators outside the ACC footprint balking at picking up another sports network.

Lots of Notre Dame players arrested over the weekend.

http://www.southbendtribune.com/spor...19d42021c.html

Quote:
The turbulent career of Notre Dame safety Max Redfield is over, two weeks before his senior season was set to kick off.

A day after ND’s projected starter at free safety was arrested in Northern Indiana, Irish head coach Brian Kelly on Sunday dismissed the former five-star prospect from Mission Viejo, Calif., from the team.

Five other ND players were arrested in two separate incidents Friday night/early Saturday morning, and all five also face various levels of discipline, with injured senior cornerback Devin Butler receiving an indefinite suspension.
